Why are American girls/woman obsessed with male height (Read)?

I have lived in many countries around the world (including the US) and girls/woman are extremely heightists in the US, desiring a guy/man over 6ft tall and even if the guy is ugly (facewise obviously) they will date him just because he's a giant. Whereas in the rest of the world, unless the guy/man is a midget, girls/woman simply care if a guy/man is goodlooking (facewise obviously) and even if one is not particularly goodlooking, the smooth talkers can get any girl they desire by spitting game. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Robert Redford, and many of the best looking moviestars are all under 6ft tall, that is to show that they are famous because of their goodlooks and not because of their height. Is it possible that girls/woman in the US are heightists whereas in the rest of the world they aren't because they have issues and/or low self-esteem themselves and reflect their own insecurities on males? I'd wouldn't absolve a guy for being over 6 ft but I do find it overwhelming. Really tall people tend to unnerve me. But I would prefer a guy at least 3 inches taller then me. I don't think American women are "heighists". I see girls dating short guys all the time. If you are short, good looking, and successful then yes you will have better luck at romance verses a short average looking guy.

This seems like an overgeneralization about American women. Since only about 16% of American men are over 6' and 77% of American men are or have been married, it seems pretty clear that there are at least a hundred million American women willing to make a lifelong commitment to a man under 6'.
