What do I do when I catch my crush staring at me, but she has a boyfriend?

At about January of 2015 I developed a crush on a girl, but she had a boyfriend (although I didn't know about it at the time). I let her catch me staring at her, and after a few weeks she started staring back, but she didn't want me to see her. Whenever I would catch her, she would quickly look away. At the last day of the school year, we were basically staring at each other the whole day, but we would look away quickly whenever it happened. Summer passed, and she still stared at me when school came back, but she didn't have a boyfriend anymore. But I am way too shy to even talk to her. After a few weeks she got a new boyfriend, but she kept on staring at me, and she still stares at me. Although she toned the staring down when she got the new boyfriend, but I still catch her doing it. She has told previous crushes that she likes them, so I'm not sure why she never told me. Maybe it is because she is popular, and I'm a semi-attractive nerd who doesn't even talk to her friend group. I should also probably mention that i have a reputation for being shy, and have never dated anyone. I'm not even sure why she goes out with the guy she's dating. He is odd. But he seems very attached to her, and I think he really likes her. But then again, all the guys like her. But, I am pretty sure she is playing him. Did she give me a chance at the beginning of the school year? Why does she like me, of all people? How can I at least become friends with her? Should I just wait this whole process out for a while to see if they break up, then try to start talking to her? I actually have a plan to get her phone number, but it kinda involves waiting 8 months, assuming she still likes me by that point. But it has been almost a year, and I have acted pretty weird when I get around her, and yet, she still stares, so...

Also, she tried to become friends with one of my friends, so sometimes she sits with us. Is she trying to get to know me, or is she really just trying to become friends with him?

I think that you just need to go up and say hey to her, and ask her whats up and how her day has been. Maybe talk about one of your classes? You are gonna have to be the one that makes the initiative here. But, if she doesn't reciprocate the interest in getting to know each other then its best to move on from her. You are going to torture yourself if you just sit back and watch this girl get a new boyfriend again while you two exchange glances. That doesn't take things anywhere ya know? Sure there may be physical attachment in the sense that she thinks your cute and you think she is too... but nothing is going to happen unless you go up and talk to her.

The only problem is that since I am the shy person, whenever I say anything to anyone outside of my close friends it immediately gets awkard. Especially with her. I can sit at home all day, thinking of what to say to her, but when the time comes my mouth gets glued shut. I don't even talk to my friends when she is sitting with us. But here is my logic. If she stares at me, she obviously is interested in hanging out with me at some point in time. And I am VERY good at patience. So, I can probably wait until they break up. If that doesn't work: she stared at me a lot the last day of school last year. So, if she still likes me, that will give me an excuse to get her phone number. Personally, I think that the only reason she is dating sho she is dating. Right now is because he is a football player.

Anyways, if I have to wait, then I will wait. But I will at least try to talk to her.

you do you! maybe try and find someone else in the mind time who catches your eye? Don't convince yourself that something will happen in the future, because nothing will until you try ya know? Be realistic with yourself!

I catch other girls looking at me, who as far as I know are single. But the same staring thing will happen. Besides, it has gone on for almost a year with this girl. I think it will last longer. Buy like I said, I will try to talk to her.

just because you look at someone for a year with on and off glances doesn't necessarily mean that she's into you. Like she may be intrigued and flattered by the fact that you look at her a lot, but if she wanted to date you or at least be friends with you, she would have made moves by now or even actually be with you. Do what you want, and I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but move on and accept nothing is going to happen if you continue to act how you guys are. I have had a "thing" with someone like this before and it lasted a year and a half! I look back at it now and yell at myself for caring so much about something that was out of my reach/control. Best of luck! Go with your gut, see it as a learning experience. Try talking to those other girls now because thats a step in the right direction!

I think I would rather take the risk. I've had to let many crushes go before. Believe it or not, but one of them lasted for like, 4-5 years. But I hadn't even seen her for a long time. She even liked me back. It was my first crush. As far as I know, she may still like me. I hope not, though. Anyways, this current one seems different. I think I will try to hold on to this one for a while longer. If I have to, I will let her go. But it will be a long time. But there is no way I am finishing off this school year without her number.

I wish I could, but it is easier said than done. It is hard enough to make eye contact for more than 1/4 of a second.

(Saw the new update) SHE LIKES YOU! I've done this before, to a guy I liked. But I didn't have a boyfriend. Just be friendly with her and treat her like one of your mates. 🙈
