Do any of you do this?
If so, why?
This is one reason why I don't have a Facebook. And I'm not one to mark my messages as read or unread anyway. People can respond when they want to respond.
Because they don't want to talk to you. But they don't want to hurt you either. So they make it seem like they aren't ignoring you.
Simple
But having it marked as unread makes it seem like they never read the message so that comes off as if they are ignoring you...

They could just pretend they never saw it rather than blatantly reading it and ignoring you. They're just attempting to spare your feelings
Pretending like they never saw it doesn't make sense when it comes to text on social media or the phone, we both know it was received so why act like it wasn't read. Besides some messages don't need a response right away or at all so where's the harm in having it shown that it was read?
I've already explained it to you. Seriously this is probably why you get ignored
I know you explained it I'm just saying the logic behind it doesn't make sense. Like what's the point in having "goodnight" marked as unread the next day when it was read on the night it was sent or other things/phrases along those lines (like "that's okay" or "Happy Birthday").
Whatever, I'm over it, but you got to admit it it's kind of contradiction.
I know it isn't extremely logical I'm just saying they do it to be nice.
Well humans as a species do all kinds of things that are illogical so I don't know why I'm surprised by the trivial.
Do you ever do that? because for me personally I don't need my mailbox clogged with unread messages that I've already read whether I'm going to respond or not.
No I don't, but then again I don't have social media. But still if a guy I don't like texts me I usually make polite conversation but eventually stop replying.
Yeah dood she explained it perfectly. Girls ignore you to be nice. Sounds like typical girl logic to me
They do that because they don't want to talk to you... don't want to hurt your feelings either.
Okay, making it seem like you never read the message is more insulting than showing that you read it because it shows that you cared enough to read it but just didn't have anything to say when it came to a response... at least that's my interpretation.
I do it when i don't want to respond to an annoying ass message.
So they can play coy and act like they didn't read your message.
seems so

ask on facebook
I doubt I'd get worthwhile replies... but I am tempted now that you suggested it - though I'd ask it gender neutral "why do people mark FB messages as unread?" because I notice lots of guys do it as well.
hurray... 😁 😂 😃 😄 😅 😆 😇 😉 😊
posted it, because why not.
