Girlfriend Doesn't like PDA (Public Display of Affection)?

I'm in 7th she's in 8th. Her name is Kelly. I've known her since like elementary. Just got together this year. We only have one class together which is our elective. we barely do anything during our elective. During our elective we'll hold hands, hug, cuddle. But when we are outside when I try to go for her hand she won't grab mine back. The only time she's shown PDA was when we were hanging out after school and she gave me a long hug goodbye. I was surprised because she usually never hugs me face to face and it was in public. When we hug each other, I'll usually hug her from behind.

So does she just not like PDA?

I talked with her and she told me that she doesn't want to have so many people know. She's really shy.

I also do not like public display of affection. Nor do I like holding hands or hugging. People think I am reserved.
I like to show affection but through other things like coming to aid or helping when in need.

Unless you were friends with me and her you wouldn't even know that I was a 7th grader. I'm 5'9" and she's like 5'3"-5'4". And when I usually try to hold hands with her in public none of our friends are around
