Why would someone not reply to a birthday wish?

I messaged a friend from a whiel ago and wished her a happy birthday.

She actually didn't respond which is rude. I think a part of me knew she wouldn't.

Either way I did wonder.

Think about it what should she say thank you? If all her friends said happy birthday does that mean she would have to say thank you to each one?

It's her birthday so why are you being offended? Say happy birthday and let her enjoy her day geez.

I guess her messages to me have always been distant but I was os nice to her.

I said, "Happy birthday, was just remembering you the other day."

I don't know maybe she felt we aren't close enough for me to say that? I always felt like she didn't love me as a friend as much as I loved her

She's a bitch. Don't bother with her. If you can take time out of your day to wish her, she can reply.

The thing is, I considered that she might never have liked me that much as a friend in the first place.

Then don't belittle yourself into overanalyzing why she didn't reply. Her not replying proves to you that she didn't consider you a friend. You did a good thing by messaging her and she made you feel stupid. Don't let anyone have that power over you.
