I don't understand when I tell guys that I play games and play dnd they think I'm insane. then I had a guy say that all nerdy girls are fat and ugly. why do men think that?
If the PRIMARY descriptor that boys use for a woman is "nerdy", then... well... that means they don't find her attractive.
This has nothing AT ALL to do with inherent qualities of "nerdy girls", and/or correlations between said traits and physical attractiveness. Nope.
This is ENTIRELY a function of the fact that "hot" trumps ••EVERYTHING•• else, when it comes to boys' descriptors of women. If a boy thinks you're hot, then he will not EVER describe you [except maybe to his parents ahah] as a "nerdy girl", or a "smart girl", or a "_____ girl" where ______ is anything other than HOT. Nah lol. To him, you're "a HOT girl" ... who might also happen to be nerdy, or smart, or whateverthehell. But none of the other adjectives will ever eclipse "HOT" for that coveted space to the left of "girl".

Corollary: If said boy suddenly STARTS describing you as a "nerdy girl" (or "smart girl" or "[any adjective other than HOT] girl") ... then, if you care about him, you might want to think about why he isn't as attracted to you as he used to be!
@Unit1 read what I wrote again ... plenty of nerdy women are hot, but, in those cases like 99.7% of boys would describe them as "hot women who are also nerdy". and mb like 0.3% would describe them as "nerdy girls who are also hot".

I have no idea where you are taking those stats, that i happen to be in that minority but i am sure in myself, that those numbers are not even close to being real. I have no determination how many think like this but i do feel, that it is very untrue and maybe even overanalyzed.

I know plenty of nerdy women and men - most are pretty damn cute: and the fact they have awesome personalities and are actually smart... just makes them even cuter, i. e., wife/husband material for sure.
Mostly stereotipes, but the atentionwhores that just call themselves gamer/nerd/geek/etc don't really help the case, I'd say it got worse since it became a trend for some girls to be possers of some medium. It created a very negative atmosphere around female members in general, so some people just will assume someone is a posser by stereotiping and pattern recognition, if they see any trait that remotely reminds them of the last posser they met, they'll assume you're one too. This is only speaking for the point of view of someone inside the said fanbase, but the same basis can be aplied to an external perspective, people will think of the stereotype of the group, and so they'll assume that a girl who's into something should have those characteristics.
Nerd.. nowdays there's some pretty girls labeling themselfs as nerdy so they may be perceived as politically correct or smart. In my day some were just as plain and undesirable as f. Most became lesbian. With feminism , some females shove it in guys face about being nerdy... then of course comes all the different excuses with it. But to answer the question , a real nerdy girl or woman today has taken a different fad and turned it into a trend that will ultimately die out soon after they realize that attraction isn't really about their education or their label so much.
Are you kidding? When i was young the love of my life was velma from scooby doo. I've always heard the opposite and that nerdy girls were attractive! (Assuming we are talking about the ones that actually are attractive. There are some that aren't attractive just the same as girls who aren't nerdy can be ugly) i definitely think nerdy girls are cute
Easy, when a hobby involves staying inside and sitting on a couch for extended periods of time, its not a far extension to associate that with being overweight and unhealthy.
Now, if you're 27 and you're a "hot nerd" then you either won the gene lottery or you have other more active hobbies that help keep you in good shape. (Notice I say in good shape and not skinny... some of the most unhealthy people I know are skinny. You have to be active to be healthy, not just count calories.)
True. If anything I notice I am healthier when I consume way more calories of fat/protein then I supposedly need. I never seem to gain a waist bigger than 25 inches though but I guess i shouldn't complain about being lean since the grass is aleays greener on other side. At least I am decently curvy for my weight of 114 and height of 5'2
I believe it has something to do with the representation of nerds in classic 80s movies (though honestly it hasn't changed much). Also, the types of men who believe that also believe that every woman who isn't a model is ugly and/or plain. So you know, consider the demographic.
Not all men think that... the ones that do would, I imagine, also have other narrow minded and negative world views. Any guy who has been to a comic con or sci fi convention has seen how attractive the girls are... last one I went to I had to go and have a sit down from seeing too many Harley Quinn's in hot pants.
But, on average they're less attractive because a) they don't take care of their appearance as much (including exercise), and b) nerd culture is a popular refuge among children who were considered ugly, or average, rather than attractive, by their peers. And yes, all of this applies to male nerds as well and this comes from a man with many nerdy interests.
Same goes for girls aswell on guys. I think it's because they all have the same and stupid idea: they just sit inside, play/read whatever and eat a lot, never work-out etc... thing is: they are so wrong and naive! Most nerds do WORKOUT and what's really common is that when you play for hours... you loose your appetite. You go out with your IRL friends and eat a MASSIVE PIZZA or BURGER meal, and that's the only food you get for the day.
I don't. I've met plenty of nerdy girls who are very attractive. That being said, if they're unattractive to me, they're unattractive to me because of their appearance in the first place, not because of their interests.
I just think it's annoying when a girl is attractive and plays video games or is into comics is like omg I'm so nerdy.
People can like what they like, but it does not define them.

Those assumptions you made are generally from a stigma of guys who's brains haven't matured past the age of 10. Plenty of attractive women love nerdy things, and plenty of less attractive women are into fitness things and so on so forth. How someone looks generally has very little to-or nothing to do with what they do/enjoy.
I can't speak for all men out there but personally I think that there's nothing wrong with nerdy girls. Look at Doctor Who, the thirteenth doctor is a woman. Star Trek Voyager , Captain Janeway was the lead character. Those are just two of many female characters out there that females look up to. Gamer girls are awesome, just goes to show that not all games are for guys. Be strong , be proud, be yourself, be gamer, be a nerd.

I don't think that. But some fat or unattractive women do try to be gamers just because they know it will get some guys interested in them that normally would have no interest in them. If a girl is actually attractive and is into that stuff, she becomes even more appealing to me.
People considered nerdy often lead sedentary lifestyles which leads to being overweight. Also, they may be socially awkward. It's mostly a stereotype, but I find it to be true sometimes. I'm a nerdy girl, average looking, and guys won't touch me. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

What? This csnnot possibly be true at all. I've never found a nerdy girl to be ugly at all. And if she was it was because she simply was not attractive, not because she was a nerd.
Its a society stereotype. Not all women who play games are hot to trot like you are. Id say its more common to assume an anime obsessed chic is weird and not attractive.
And yet I've met some of the hottest girls who are into anime. Last Friday I met a girl who was into anime and she was almost embarrassed to say anything because she knew it wasn't her "stereotype" this girl was easily a 10/10.
SOME nerdy girls might have less attractive looks because they look more in study books than in the makeup mirror. But I met several nerdy girls who looked sexy enough , not to need their makeup mirror.
Nerdy girls are Hot, so I dont know where you been. Whats even better is that they will talk to you about different things besides getting drunk and partying all weekend. Would be nice if more women were like this.

Most people, men and women, stereotype others they have never met in person. People are pigeon holed into boxes to suit a mindset of what they imagine people to be.
from experience real nerdy girls, the ones who get a 100 on their exams aren't hot nor they care about looking good, sure sometimes you find a smoking hot girl who happens to study a lot but most aren't addicted to studying or obsessed with books.
Its funny because some of the prettiest girls I know are some of the nerdiest. Although I think its because most nerd hobbies put the person inside and technically alone.
Thats not a gender issue. Have you seen any nerd movies? Gamers? What kind of guys are in them? Both nerdy women and men have that stigma about them I guess in a way.

I don't assume nerdy women are both fat and ugly. But, I had see some ugly nerdy girls before. Normally, most nerdy girls I see are skinny and sometimes attractive.
