Wow "normal people" that's Insulting, if anything you should be asking us abnormal people for advice. Anyways to answer your question, I have DI; five personalities. They're all so distinct and I manifested them as a child 'apparently' well that's what my psychologist said. I was abused growing up and I guess that was my defense, creating those personalities to guide and protect me (the host). Did you sister suffer from anything traumatic? If not, it would extremely odd that she has this condition. My family suspected I had DID before we even knew for sure. Best advice I'd give you is to try and understand her. Even when she's not 'herself'. Certain things trigger certain personalities, once you learn what those triggers are and once you basically recognize each personality, then would be easier for you to understand her and them. For example I have an alter named Kyle and he's extremely rude and loud, also very violent. Everytime we'd switch, id lose time in the early stages but usually while Kyle was out. He'd pick a lot of fights with my brothers, verbal and physical. Once they learnt to understand me and actually spoke to some of those alters, the easier it was for everyone else to deal with my condition. Including me. I have a severe case of DID, sometimes I lose hours even till today. I know I have more in me that I'm not completely aware of.. those cause me to lose time when we switch. I'm getting help and getting better. My family has really been supportive. Please be there for her, alters are very different to the host and sometime she they may not like certain people due to one thing or another. And referring to other people as normal makes people like your sister and I feel abnormal. And I highly doesn't you want her alters disliking you. Even if she loves you, they can make your life hell. Goodluck
Doubt* excuse all the typos. Typing off a phone but you get it. Goodluck
You read about it. You gain some understanding of how to try to help her when with her. You maintain your life. You adapt.
It's a somewhat controversial diagnosis. Is this something you've seen and finally someone recognized or does it surprise you?
Is there any abusive person your sister is in contact with? Has she suffered past abuse?
Do you believe she's honest? (Whether or not she's sometimes wrong)
Firstly, do you know what trauma she went through? That can help you figure out triggers. Next, be there for her. Don't make her feel weird about her disorder, learn about what happens for her specifically and see what helps her best. Read, read, read! Education is great when you want to help her get through this. Don't treat her differently, she's still your sister, she just has a disorder. Mental illnesses can be tiring, make sure she has time to recharge. there's probably other questions you have, PM me if you want to talk :)
I have anxiety and depression, which is pretty different from what your sister is dealing with. Be patient, loving, and try your best to help her. Honestly with mental illness a family member or just loved ones can only help to a certain extent. This fight is something your sister has to deal with herself, you just have to be there to support her though it.
@JenDB I'm sorry for your family :/ I have no idea how anyone deals with something like this... You'd be better off asking someone who has a family member with DIO

Dealt with family member who had/has mental illness.
Best thing to do is:
-read up the illness
-understand that it's not them or you or anyone.
-get them help.
I used to listen to all the advise about being understanding and stuff, and that's bullshit. Love your loved one, but fight that motherfucking disease like it's the devil.
Good luck
There's no such thing as normal people. Treat your sister, both of her personalities, like you would treat a "normal" person
You don't. It's not your problem and you can't fix it. Just live YOUR life to the best of your ability.
It also sounds a lot like psycho-babble. Just let her deal with her own issues and support her where you are able.
She can try the PSTEC. org if she wants, otherwise you can look the body code on Youtube and show it to your parents after that you understand well.
I think that may help you

Well how do you treat a sick person? Be loving and caring. Stay strong, you'll get through it.
I'd accept with. It's my sister after all. I remains to protect her from any other dsmgersb
Be there for her, love her, pray for her. Don't treat her as a mental case but treat her as a normal person.
Well you bring her to a psychologist and have her workout if its from something in her past or if it's just hard wired and they will go from there on how to work on it
I would also her and while shaking her tell her to "calm down get a hold of yourself"
I just want to say that will not help someone, that could cause them to become even more distress.
Just embrace because she is lucky to have u and u r lucky to have her
I've broken down so many times I stopped counting wishing your sister the best of luck 💓
I would do my best to support her. I don't really know how but I'll probably ask Google on what I need to do.
People who are like that are very often victims of sever abuse, what did you guys do to her? that is the question.
Then use your money to make it go away.
@azzntittiz You're wrong
Schizophrenia is most often caused by severe abuse, not dissociative. Both can be genetic though.
Don't be so judgmental if you don't have your facts straight.
@watercolor_lions You're not really a lion, so don't talk to me liar.
Sorry, I phrases that wrong.
Schizophrenia is more likely to result from severe abuse, rather than dissociative personality disorder*
You obviously haven't taken any psychology classes
What does she behav lik? Does she harm people?
very carefully and slowly
you mean like in (split) movie?
She's my sister. Id look out for her.
"normal", is so overrated
you should not leave him alone
Start a fight club
Provide her work
