Was I wrong for mistakenly kicking a guy in the balls? Will he be okay?

Years ago, I was followed and robbed and it gave me a huge host of anxiety issues I'm still dealing with today.

Last Monday I was walking home from my language classes when I see this young guy and he keeps staring at me, and he was following me. I was scared and in high alert, and I tried to go into a coffeeshop but it was closed and I was nearing home, so I try to get to my apartment but he suddenly approached me quickly and I spun around and slammed my boot between his legs with all my strength.

He was curled up and crying when I realised he was in the same class as I was, and trying to return my wallet, and I immediately apologised and went up to get him ice but he was still holding himself and throwing up uncontrollably after a long time so I called an ambulance and gave him some of the money in my wallet.

I tried contacting him to check if he was ok because I am scared I neutered him, but he has not replied to me. Did I overreact or was my reaction justified?

Will he be okay, or is he seriously injured, too?
