She could just be mentioning them because they are an important part of her life and it's normal to talk about. Women also tend to do this to subtly affirm that she isn't interested in a romantic relationship. You likely won't find a single woman out there who hasn't had to friend zone a guy she was friends with when he started pursuing her. Some men also have problems differentiating small talk from flirting, definitely not all men and not even the majority, but all women have met such men at one point or another.
