No, I think it can help add some additional information about the statement because you can’t use things like tone of voice over text. “Lol” can help indicate the previous statement isn’t meant to be serious, like the difference between “My friends are crazy.” and “My friends are crazy lol”. “Haha” can be a bit less formal and therefore more natural-sounding than “That’s funny!”
