Girls should never wear sweatpants in public? why not?

right now I'm wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt

I'm about to head out to the library for some studies, then I'm meeting one of my girls for coffee, grabbing a burger with a guy friend and then going with him to catch a free improv show our school's theatre group is putting on.

it's very cold and rainy outside.

why do so many guys find this type of outfit unfit for public, even with the bad weather and my low key activities?

It isn't that you don't look attractive, or that it's just completely unacceptable. It just shows a lack of effort, like you just don't care (and not in a good way).

What do you think about guys who go out unshaven? Guys with thin hair who let it grow out too long? Guys who drive around in unwashed cars?

Which is more attractive to you:

A man who always wears nice jeans, a button down shirt, short hair, and nice leather shoes

A guy who usually wears a tee shirt, jeans, and nikes?

You don't even know what they look like, but I'm betting that you'd rather meet Mr. Leather shoes. It's not that one is more attractive than the other, but you just know immediately that one keeps himself to a much higher standard than the other. Probably more interesting, tries harder, possibly makes more money...the implications go on and on.

So, all that wearing sweatpants means is that you don't care. Even on a rainy day, it just sends a message that your standards aren't that high. It almost flies in the face of other people, like "Here I am, I don't care what you think, I'll wear my pajamas in public. I dress for me!" I don't mean that I've literally ever been that offended by it, because I haven't ever even given it that much thought, and I doubt that most guys have. But that's just how it sort of comes across.

For the record, I do find them sexy when I see them. It reminds me of girls in high school. But it also makes me think that that is where the girl is maturity-wise, and I wouldn't date a girl who wore them in public. Just an underlying feeling that they wouldn't give much effort.

Oh, I don't think many guys find that outfit unfit for public, at least for those activities you describe.

It's not really that sweat pants are a turn-off, per se, but more that they are not a turn-on. Think of them as neutral.

Of course men like skin and stuff that shows of curves, sweat pants tend to hide your toned legs. So they don't really do much for a guy's imagination, but I don't think you should stop wearing them or anything, if that's your style. As long as you don't wear them to less casual events.

Well from the pic at least it looks like those pants show off your butt, still, sweatpants tend to be neutral/boring.

I think most guys find that look more approachable. When I go out dresses up pretty nice, maybe heels and a tight shirt, guys look at me and comment, but that's about it. For some odd reason, when I throw on a hoodie or sweats, I end up with guys asking me for my number all day long. I think sweats just make a girl look more normal and confident because girl's too concerned with their appearance would never go out in sweats and a t.

Plus, your more comfortable so it puts you in a better mood.

Sweats are nice for certain days, but I think there should be a balance between sweats and jeans. You don't want to come off as being insecure because every day you wear sweats and t's which will send that message.

i don't know why but I have to agree with some of the other posts. a lot of girls I see trying to pull this look come off seeming trashy or sloppy. there are very, very few who can manage to make it look good.

i think is because context really matters. though I find my pjs comfy and I wear sweats to the gym, I don't think I would want to go out in them. I sleep naked in the summer when it gets really hot. I would never think to go outside like that even if it is comfortable and I would feel less warm. everything in its place.

because sweatpants for one make girls look sloppy and unorganized. It also caused girls to look bigger than they are. Guys like when girls are composed and take care of themselves. If you're gonna go casual then try a cute sweatshirt  with skinny jeans and uggs with a purse. appearance is very important

its not about your activities first off... its about Guys, in general.. not thinking outside the body figure, and outside their own little sex driven mind set. They look at a girl in a t-shirt and sweats and say, "lazy" "slob" "she doesn't look good today it must be that time." Its shallow thinking. if these guys, that are around today, and no offense to the guys in here that I know will read this. but its just shallow. its the tight jeans, cleavage that most look for. instead of looking at a girl and saying wow... even though your wearing sweats, or if your wearing your sundays best your still hot. its jsut a mind set that some guys have and some guys dont. Sorry to hear you have uneducated outfit police on your campus; my campus in summer used to allow swimsuits. Cold & rainy makes your outfit a must, your truncated photo proves it is not only stylish but sexy (as you proved in comment below). Looks good to me. You should wear whatever feels comfortable, but I have to say its like a "hit or miss" subject. The right pair on a girl who can still make it look like she made an effort to dress and put on make up looks great. Otherwise, most guys will assume you just got out of bed, haven't showered..ect.

I think it depends on how they're worn whether guys will like them.  if they are those cute butt sweat pants from like abercrombie or hollister with a cute tshirt or tank top I can't imagine there's a guy who wouldn't like those LOL but if they're the "damn I started my period and this is the most comfortable thing I could find to wear cause I feel like crap" jogging pants then yeah lol I can't imagine many guys who are gonna think those are flattering.

Im a girl...i wear them at home or wehn I work out...i don't leave the house with them unless its to the gym, because they are too sloppy looking...at school people wear them...but only to school not to the mall...jeans are more all-arounded or the cotton leggings with boots for more comfy feel.

I think that you should just wear what you want to wear. As long as you don't go to a fancy restaurant dressed like that or to an interview or something like that in sweats its okay. Be comfortable and warm, especially if it is rainy out.
