Good question. I have no idea. It makes no sense to me, and I've been trying to figure this out for years now. I keep thinking, "Look, if you don't want some 'pervert' ogling you, then don't dress like a cheap whore. As the old saying goes, "Don't advertise if you're not selling"".
Women should be allowed to dress however they want. If she likes revealing clothes then that’s her call. Men shouldn’t be allowed to disrespect woman by whistling etc. I don’t understand your question. It’s like asking why is a girl complaining she got raped when she went out in revealing clothing. Some things are just out of order. Men thinking a certain behaviour is ok and welcome just because of the way a girl dressed is 100% out of order!!
"Dress however they want". - Does that include wearing nothing at all? "If she likes revealing clothes then that’s her call." - WHY would a woman wear revealing clothes if she doesn't want male attention? "Men shouldn’t be allowed to disrespect woman by whistling etc." - When you whistle at someone you're not "disrespecting" them, you're giving them a COMPLIMENT! "I don’t understand your question." - Yes you do. Don't pretend now. It's pretty straightforward. "It’s like asking why is a girl complaining she got raped when she went out in revealing clothing." - It's NOTHING like that! Geez, you feminazis are just cuh-ray-zeee! "Some things are just out of order." - Yes, like women who dress like prostitutes and then complain about being "harassed" by men. "Men thinking a certain behaviour is ok and welcome just because of the way a girl dressed is 100% out of order." - No it's not. If you dress decently (ex. don't wear gymnasium clothes on the street) then you will have nothing to worry about.
@Yaaten For me women and men should be able to dress however they wish, and not to worry about what society thinks - something that might seem revealing to you maybe doesn’t seem revealing to someone else. As long as your boobs, dick etc aren’t hanging off and you’re not completely naked you’re good! And whistling is soooo disrespectful! A compliment is when you say “oh you look really nice” “I really like your outfit”. Whistling is just so cheap and it is putting women off!! And by the way what’s wrong with wearing a gym outfit on the streets? Have you never seen anyone wear leggings etc out and about?
You're really comparing whistling to rape? Whistling harms no one. Rape is actually forcing sex on someone against their will.
I agree that everyone should be able to dress however they want, but they should also expect the attention that comes with the associated outfit.
If you're actually so delusional that you think you don't deserve looks or attention or certain reactions when you portray yourself in a certain way, then you might as well go nude and expect that everyone should respect you and not ogle you or whistle or anything.
"And by the way what’s wrong with wearing a gym outfit on the streets? Have you never seen anyone wear leggings etc out and about?" - Yes, I have unfortunately, and they're just not appropriate outside the gym.
They dress however they want to. I could go to a nudist beach and still let them be. No need to be an asshole and objectify women. Girls dress like that because they feel good and they like to look good for themselves. Sometimes for their boyfriend or what not and still you should respect her. My ex liked to feel like a slut in her own words and that doesn't mean I could just abuse her. You really need to stop blaming women for not being able to keep your eyes/hands to yourself.
Whistle? I know how I dress so I don’t care if I get catcalled but they don’t have the right to show me face or get upset when I don’t respond. I don’t have time for self-entitlement freaks who think they pay for my salary that I owe them a response.
I literally got cat called when i went to buy snacks at 8pm wearing my pajama bottoms, a coat, ugly boots and while hair were a mess. Men just like to sexually harass and sexualise women, point blank period.
@JustACuriousLady I will agree that ALL men, unless gay (which they sexualize other men also, so it's not just a woman thing) sexualize women because that's a normal biological imperative but are you saying that most men went to sexually harass women?
Double edged sword, they want the attention but get annoyed by it. When the day arrives when women and girls say stop looking sexy for all men, and actually value being in a relationship where her sexy body is for one man or guy (her boyfriend or husband). To girls and women out there, you don’t have to look sexy all the time. Have more meaning in life such as, “wow that girl there she’s friggin smart” or “see that girl over there she’s fucking tough”... Those types of things. I’m not saying going out and wanting to be pretty is bad, but there’s a difference between slutty and pretty. To me, pretty is is looking presentable even if that means track pants and a tshirt. But that’s me , not every guy or girl answering this question will agree with that.
It is something I also really want to ask and understand and know. But then society sasys that a man cat calling a woman does not have to be linked for the type of clothes she is wearing cause that be be disrespectful and some kind of abuse towards the woman
When women dress in revealing clothing they want attention. They only complain if the man is not the type of man , i. e. with money and or good looks or fame.
95 % of women would scream sexually harassment if the janitor takes a pass at them - but they would not do the same if it were a rich CEO or actor. All women want and need attention from men - but from the right kid of men.
Because they didn’t dress in revealing clothing for men to leer and whistle at them. They have the clothes on because that’s what they wanted to wear that day.
Are you that delusional that you expect people to not get more attention when they're dressed more provocatively? Might as well go nude and not expect any looks by that logic.
I frankly don’t give a shit how people dress or the comments they get for doing so. What I’m doing is answering the question. It’s not my problem if MEN can’t look without commenting, gesturing or whistling, is it!

If women want more respect then they should dress more respectfully.
I stopped wearing revealing clothes when I realized I wasn’t getting attention from the kind of men I want 😂 it also just makes a girl look trashy. If you are pretty and dress morally than you will gain respect from men. I remember this one time I walked by a guy and he called me a slut. He didn’t even know me, I was just wearing tight/revealing clothes. Girls wear it to feel sexy and look sexy. Some wear it for attention.
There is a time and place always for ‘slutty’ clothes. But, everyday, I agree, men respect it more when you dress more morally and respectfully. A lot of women I think, don’t know how important this is for guys.
@Anonymous Exactly. Want to attract higher quality men? Then don't dress like a cheap escort. It's really that simple. And something many of (young) women don't get. Men respect women with CLASS, not women who dress trashy
It shouldn't be up to other people to get to decide what you wear. That type of commentary is trashy, I don't care what a woman is wearing, that's her choice. The real trash is the man talking down to a stranger like he gets make decisions about her wardrobe.
omg yes. I have been thanking the gods for leggings. It's so sexy. But I just appreciate it without making women feel uncomfortable about it, I want them to feel as comfortable as possible and keep the behavior/style lol. XD
Well if you were to be out in public with your mom, sister, daughter, or girlfriend, and other men were treating her like she’s an object in front of you. Would you like it then?
sorry what? Do you think I am treating them like objects or are you referring to something else? The question being rhetorical of course, but I'm just appreciating beauty without making comment or overtly looking even.
Maybe you’re one of the few who treat her like a normal human, most guys will think she’s dressing slutty cause she’s easy. When I was 16 and dumb I’d get disrespected so many times without realizing cause dressing whorish came with attention. I was truly an idiot.
@zeitgeist057 It's true that a woman should be free to dress how she wants (given it doesn't break the law) and that the way a woman dresses is no invitation for unwanted behavior. But it's a reality we have to accept. They are there and will always be there. So the best thing to do is adjust. So whenever a woman goes out with provocative clothing, she has to accept the fact that she will have to deal with such behavior. And by that, she is no victim anymore. Because she willingly took the risk.
Oh, because MY choice of clothing doesn’t give you the right to treat me like a piece of meat! Believe it or not, I don’t know you, so I couldn’t possibly have dressed like this for you!
I get your point and I totally agree. I can look at you without staring, without making a face, and without even making a sound... enjoy what I see and you're never the wiser and never offended. I'm ancient enough now that I can complement a woman about her appearance, but I almost never do that because it's bad manners.
Hi there @argyle, thanks for you reply. You are absolutely correct, while I would prefer total strangers not think of me in any sexual way, THAT is naive at best, and contrary to human behavior. And WE can be hypocritical about this too. If a cute guy checks out our ass, we feel complemented, but if a guy old enough to be our dad (40y/o) does it, we freak! I totally get that to THAT 40y/o we are just a pretty girl... NOT THEIR DAUGHTER, and men don’t just stop being attracted to pretty girls when they turn 30. So what you do is PREFECT! Why does it take guys SO long to figure this out? If you wanna check out my ass, or my boobs... FINE! Just don’t let me catch you staring! Men have no idea how terrifying it can be when a man is literally aggressive in making overt advances, or how creepy it is when a man I am approaching is just staring at my chest, or directly at my crotch (if I’m wearing leggings or tight jeans)! So, on behalf of every young woman who had NO IDEA that you were checking her out... Thank you!
Because those are not the sort of men they're trying to attract. If Brad Pitt or something gave them a whistle, they wouldn't be complaining. If someone invented clothes that changed how much they revealed their bodies based on who they found desirable, then pretty much all women would wear them instead.
Comfy, they like it, is something that may or may not hide insecurities, because they want?
I support everyone wearing pretty much what they want. But if we are going to say good looking women shouldn't dress a certain way if they want/don't want attention, are we going to lock down men as well or just pretend there's no issue?
Catcalling is rude but if any women who seriously dress like that and expect men not to pay attention to you them are either very stupid or are looking for a reason to be offended. If you’re almost naked don’t be surprised if it attracts stares and shocks people catcalling is one thing but don’t be surprised it attracts attention.
For me, the bottom line is: Women need to be MODEST at all times, and men RESPECTFUL. The same is true the other way round. If all women dresses modestly and all men were respectful, and if all men were modest and all women respectful, there wouldn't even be questions asked like this one!

Probably because it promotors as fashion, and girls like fashion. Then guys think they’re doing it for sex, when they may not be, and it can be cringy to be cat called in certain ways. Some is fine if it’s just a harmless compliment. But some is just awful and people with issues try to capitalise on it.
If society promoted wearing burkas... would women here do it... no they would puss and moan about it being “oppressive” they dress like hookers because they want sexual attention.
That’s ridiculous. Are you focusing on a minority or has someone personally offended you because what you say isn’t reflected in every day life in my experience.
It’s simply proof that females wear nothing in public... which was the point. Disregard it all you want, women dress like this in almost all western society. You yourself have tights and way to short shorts. It’s just how it is.
@LogicBomber you're point makes no sense and you know nothing about women's fashion. for example, just in 2020, oversized t-shirts and high waisted loose jeans made a comeback in women's fashion, and fashionable individuals wore them (bella hadid, kendall jenner, rihanna). nobody got upset and called it "oppressive," we celebrated it and wore those clothes. we don't want sexual attention from y'all, we just want to look cute. not everything a girl does is to please men, contrary to your disgusting belief.
@___nik exactly. I’m not even reading his pointless comments anymore tbh, makes little difference to me and I’ve better things to do. People who choose not to use logic will have to reap their own consequences of that.
@___nik just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense. I also never claimed to know anything about fashion, which is also irrelevant. Just because these females have decided to wear clothes for once doesn’t mean they don’t parade around in almost nothing most other times. even you likely have tights (cloth body paint) or retardedly short shorts where your ass cheeks hang out the back.
Also, no one said “everything a girl does is to please men” but dressing with little to no clothing IS done to get male sexual attention. Regardless of how you try to justify it.
@LogicBomber no, your argument literally doesn't make sense, it's not just that i oppose it. first of all , how is knowledge of women's fashion irrelevant to your claim? you literally stated that women do not follow trends that are based on modest trends while having no knowledge of what women actually wear. and your " dressing with little to no clothing IS done to get male sexual attention" claim, by that logic why would femme lesbians exist? no, a woman does not wear sexy clothing for male attention. and tights were a trend in like 2010, and most girls walk around with shorts that cover their ass, have ever been outside? women have always followed trends regardless of how modest they were (think oversized sweaters, baggy jeans, midi skirts (skirts that come down to your calves), cardigans, turtlenecks, these were just a couple trends in the recent 2020). please stop acting like a women's fashion connoisseur, you're a 30 year old man arguing with a girl on the internet about how women should dress.
@___nik MY knowledge of women's fashion is irrelevant to the fact that exposing yourself is cheap cry for sexual attention. At no point did I say women don't follow trends. Women actually are sheep which is why most marketing is aimed at them. Again, that doesn't mean exposing yourself isn't for sexual attention. A girl who fucks a random guy at a party, because he friends all do that and she is just following a group doesn't mean she isn't still fucking. If you follow a group and kill someone, you are still a killer. So if the "trend" is to look like a whore, and you follow that trend... you are still dressed like a whore. Which is for sexual attention. Female "fashion" is based on what society tells you is "sexy" and what is sexy is based on what males in society are currently interested in. Currently society is obsessed with trashy hiphop culture and therefore trends are currently about dressing and acting like ghetto trash. Twerking on tiktok, over exposing themselves, etc.
If a male puts his cock on display, it would be considered perverted. WHY, well because women would consider it a sexual violation to have a male expose their penis to them. Because it's SEXUAL! The same applies to a females genitals. It's that simple.
In regards to what women wear in public... my photo shows what the majority of women wear. And unless you are blind or living in the middle east... you will see this. I am not "arguing about how women should dress" I am arguing about the lack of dignity in society and how women expose themselves for sexual attention. YOU made it about fashion, as a scapegoat to deflect the facts that exposing yourself in public is wrong.
@LogicBomber again, you don't make sense to me. i am queer, but still very feminine in the way i dress and i wear "sexy" clothes occasionally. crop tops have been a trend for decades, and when i put on a crop top, it isn't for some pervert to look at my midrift, it's because i want to look trendy. i don't ask for male attention when i'm just trying to be a fashionable women, and that is evident in my sexuality. again, i'm queer, and i don't like men. i live in the United States in an urban area where people dress well. i don't think you've actually seen how women dress at this point because your generalizations are really, really off. if you really want proof of how living human beings dress, how about you go outside and observe actual women. the set of photos you attached are bullshit, because (1) they were taken in perverted angles (2) you can't make generalizations of all western women's fashion by looking 24 pictures taken out of context and (3) none of that shit is even trendy. also, you can't be talking ABOUT women's behavior through fashion and then say that women's fashion is irrelevant to what you're saying. it's not a scapegoat, it's the literal subject of our argument. again, what i'm saying is that women wear "revealing" clothes to be trendy, and not for male attention. i literally contradict you're entire statement because i am queer and i wear revealing clothing. why would i be queer but also want male attention?
@LogicBomber plus you did say women do not follow trends, you literally said "If society promoted wearing burkas... would women here do it... no they would puss and moan about it being “oppressive.”" and let me clear up that sentiment that female fashion is based on what society tells you is sexy, you can look at trends right now and clear up your confusion. for example, dark academia is a trend right now, how are you going to tell me that dressing up like you are going to a private school with glasses and sweaters is what is "sexy"? let's not forget how much men are sheep too, y'all will not wear women's clothing in fear of being called gay by other men and you won't healthily express you're emotions because of the stereotype that men should not cry. you follow other men in all of your journeys to money, success, and power, since that is what stereotypically men want. please stop making senseless points and give me a real reason to believe you.
@___nik How is pointing out how females in the west literally piss and moan about “oppression” every chance they get especially when they are told they can’t do something... the same as saying women don’t follow trends? You are reaching so hard you might break your arm. You can be a dyke and exposing yourself is to get “sexual attention” regardless of which sex. Any person exposing their sexual parts are doing it for sexual attention... only men get in trouble for it and women get a free pass.
the pics I posted are a simple sample of average females in everyday society and they aren’t taken from “special angles” they are basic photos of women in everyday activities exposing their genitals because they can’t control themselves enough to wear proper attire or at least have the dignity to conduct themselves accordingly when wearing exposing clothes.
Men are not sheep. If a guy doesn’t like something they don’t do it. They don’t need to ask their friends if they think someone is cute before they date them or have to filter everything through someone else before they decide if they want to do something or not. Men don’t show emotion because we are simply programmed different than women. We work on shit internally and on our own. This isn’t 1980... guys don’t call each other gay for crying.
@LogicBomber yes the pictures you posted are taken from disgusting angles, especially the ones of women playing sports, women laying down, and women bending over. go look at the average woman outside and you'll see she is mostly covered up. and you stated that women would find a trend including burkas oppressive, even though i have given you numerous examples of women following modest trends. you did NOT talk about "every instance we are told we can't do something" do not make shit up. this entire thread is talking about CLOTHING, do i look stupid to you? you're the one making it about something it's not !! no, i do not expose myself to get sexual attention, i do it because i want to look cute and i know my intentions. you are not going to tell ME how I feel when i put on MY clothes, because how would you know my intentions? you don't even know me. men are sheep. they follow what other men do a lottt of the time, just like women do. i never denied that women aren't sheep. all of humanity are essentially "sheep" because we follow what other people do, it's human nature. it's in our biology. yes, men filter themselves, yes men ask their friends if they think they're girlfriend is hot, my male friends do it. and fashionable men keep up with trends, making them more attractive to women. DO NOT call me a dyke. you as a straight person have no right to be saying that to me, that is despicable. i appreciate that you have been respectful in your discussion with me, why did you have to call me a slur now? please do not call me a dyke. be mindful of your words and do not call me slurs just because i fail to see the validity in your points.

Men have to abide by social dignity laws and women should not be exempt because they are entitled and desperate for cheap sexual attention.

Attention...
That's all it is. I've seen women walk around in a short dress when it's cold and windy.
Like it's so obvious everyone else is wrapped up but this one girl is in a skimpy dress. I mean if her goal was to stand out mission accomplished.
Because they didn’t dress in revealing clothing for men to leer and whistle at them.

It's up to men to learn how to behave in public and to look without commenting. A woman should be able to wear whatever the hell she wants to wear, or even go nude in public, without attracting comments, leers, or unwelcome attention.
@argyle mangina
@argyle exactly.
Have you seen this?
Why do men walk around shirtless then complain when they get whistled at?
I'm divided on this one. I dont think they should be going out in revealing clothes at least not excessively, but at the same time it doesn't mean for men to do whatever they want either, they still need to show respect and courteous and refrain from whistling. They need to "control" themselves
If women want more respect then they should dress more respectfully.

*it’s promoted
If society promoted wearing burkas... would women here do it... no they would puss and moan about it being “oppressive”
they dress like hookers because they want sexual attention.
@LogicBomber if they promoted it as fashion? Of course they would!! Don’t be an idiot.
Yeah no they wouldn’t and you know it.
Having dignity was in fashion and women have been fighting to expose more and more of themselves.
That’s ridiculous. Are you focusing on a minority or has someone personally offended you because what you say isn’t reflected in every day life in my experience.
I am focusing on western society as a whole...
If you don’t see it in every day life, it’s because you don’t want to.
@LogicBomber okay so you chose to include a biased set of pictures that proves nothing other than your bias... erm congrats 🤷🏼♀️
