    Most of them probably aren't. Have you ever been attacked or physically accosted by any of them?
    Most of them are just average guys that see a hot looking chick and can't help but make some kind of comment about how gorgeous she is and some just do it by a wolf whistle. Guys have been doing for at least 100 years and I doubt it's gonna stop any time soon! Chances are EXTREMELY good that if they whistle at you, that's all you'll ever hear from him! In some cases, there MIGHT be other comments but, the chances of it going any farther than that are slim to none.
    Look at it this way, isn't it a LOT better than to hear him yell something like, "Hey, baby! Let's fuck!!"
    It's nothing more than an innocent way of telling a girl she's VERY attractive. You know, a compliment!

      I love a guy to approach but the whistle is pathetic. At least use words and yell a compliment.

      @DermalPunch Words can get you into trouble. A whistle can't. There's a much better chance of repercussions with words than a whistle and, chances are, if done the right way, nobody will know who whistled. And, maybe he's just shy. He can't bring himself to talk to you but he wants to let you know that you're something special, in his eyes.
      I've seen women that whistle at a man!

      A whistle is considered harassment just the same. Words are harassment depending on what you say.

      @DermalPunch Which is less offensive?
      1. A wolf whistle.
      2. "Great tits!! Can I feel them?"

      OMG are you serious bro. Don't yell nice titulaire. Yell you look amazing.

      One is harassment. The other is a cat call but at least it's classy. A whistle is always classless.

    It's a non verbal cat call. Often perpetuated by cartoons from the 30s and 40s. I know women don't like crude comments on their appearance. I could be wrong, but it's my impression that more general compliments are usually well received. "You look nice", "That outfit looks good on you" that sort of thing. "Damn girl!" or "I'd hit that" are not acceptable, and neither is a wolf whistle.

      I would prefer a crude comment than a wolf whistle. At least shows you can string a sentence together.

      I'll never forget. I was j walking at a really busy intersection and this Hinda stopped. So I started crossing.. this rasta guy with the longest locs ever stuck his head out the side and said, "I stopped just to watch you walk across".

      We both laughed and I carried on.

    Generally yeah. There are much more respectful, polite, and sincere ways to compliment someone's appearance if you're so inclined. Catcalling just comes off as immature to me.

    Sometimes it is okay. Where I used to work the office workers would get out of work at 4 o'clock and a lot of nice looking women would spill out of the big office building across the street. A lot of these girls used to really like it when the guys would whistle at them

    Most women I know take it as a compliment, so long as it's not overdone.
