Should I be careful around my colleagues who were making fun of another colleague?

We went out for drinks and they were making fun of a colleague that never came and I didn’t really like it. I feel like they will do the same to me. What do you think?

Signs of a toxic workplace. That's why I like to get a scope of what a workplace is like before I even think about fully committing to a job. The worst case scenario whenever you apply to a job is dealing with situations like this. Especially if you are a peaceful person and you don't like having that kind of drama, negativity, conflict, toxic people around you in the first place. Is very disheartening that we live in a society that actually promote this kind of mentality and here you are just trying to work and not cause trouble.

This is common sense right here. Never mingle yourself with such people. Not only do you need to be careful with that kind of person, but you need to be careful with the information that you have. Why you don't have a choice but to work around these people. You don't have to be involved with them. If you get involved with them you going to be in trouble. If you don't get involved with them, they're going to cause trouble for you regardless. Just don't associate yourself with bullies.

If you really need a job that none of this should be really of your concern. Because the more you worry about it the more likely you are to want to quit. You got to decide where your priorities are. Sadly you cannot worry about other people you have to worry about yourself.

Do not engage in office drama and petty talk. The people you surround yourself with will always be your influences be it good or bad. Just be cautious and try and not get involved.

Yeah, that's a messed up place to be, especially if you like the one that they are talking SHT about!!
I try to avoid those conversations, and stay away, because ANYHTING, you say "In Confidence" is going to get back to the one being discussed, and SOOOOOOO much worse than what was actually said!!

They already have done it to you, guaranteed, because people such as that always do. If I were you and I was in such a position many times, I would distance myself from people like that because they only can bring you down. Eventually you will reach a low that will feel impossible to come back from.

If you know they are doing it to someone else who isn't there than it's a safe bet they might do it to you if given the chance. So don't expose too much about yourself to them.
