Eurocentric beauty standards basically means the more a girl looks European, the more attractive she is to the world. It seems as if the majority of the girls that get all the views and likes on Instagram and tik tok dancing videos are white. The girls doing the ASMR have a lot of black and Hispanic guys commenting being really desperate. I’ve seen and scrolled through it thanks to the pandemic. I never had this kind of time but thanks to the pandemic my job went online so I had more time. My curiosity and main question is why does this exist? How in the world did the whole world just decide, “yeah.. those girls are the standards” because it seems to be very accurate.

Beauty standards are socially constructed and a little more complicated than that. Countries effected by colonization do have Eurocentric beauty standards though because of various reasons
I think it’s true. I think as time goes on, more ethnic features are becoming more popular in the media and are now considered more beautiful than they were before. But that could be because white people try to emulate and popularize those features. For example, Kylie Jenner. Black women were made fun of for having big thick lips and big butts for years, then all the sudden Kylie gets lip injections and a BBL and now every white girl is trying to look like her
Facial features, hairstyles, clothing, etc. that POC have had for years were considered ugly, until a famous white person did it. Now all the sudden that’s what everyone wants to look like and all the credit goes to that person. seems like white people always set the beauty standards, whether it’s their natural looks or things they rip off from other cultures.

Nah, I think that's your imagination. I have been to the Caribbean. I live in the African-American community. I have been to the Middle East. . . and all of their separate standards of beauty are still intact.
In America, it is less so because we are told these "White" American standards are the best. But in recent years, things have changed. Much to the dismay of a few groupings.

Of course. There are folks who engage in skin lightening creams. But why would you pretend that is the majority of Africans?
I mean, its funny. You don't have to even go to Africa. Just look at the African-American community. There is so much garbage out there about interracial dating. When African-American men date out less than Asian-American women.
Nothing is going to stop African-American men from being attracted to curvy women. It doesn't matter what their skin color is.
And that is not anywhere near close to being a European standard of beauty. Even as there are "Black" women like Azeala Banks and little' Kim who have used procedures to lighten their skin.
You have this belief that everyone has adopted Eurocentric standards of beauty. It would seem to me that if that were true, non-"White" males would be chasing Angelina Jolie look-alikes.

i don't know asker. ask the people in those other countries why they think white people are the beauty standard. the western media does not need to be viewed in other countries. other countries have their own media.

I'm saying in a perfect world everyone would be seen as beautiful. It's just some flaw of human nature that guys prefer women to only look like this, with every thing else being "unattractive"

[Answer split into parts] This question is far more complicated than people here have so far given it credit for. CERTAINLY, there's an element of Euro-centrism out there; East Asian people getting plastic surgery to have differently shaped eyes is a good example. But there are two elements that get confused for Euro-centrism (or at least overlap it): FASHION and STATUS. All because of mutations aeons ago, Europeans ended-up with the widest variety of naturally-occurring eye and hair colours. FASHION can change on a whim. Now, you can wear different coloured contact lenses, if you like. Can you say that a black person who dyes their hair blonde is trying to emulate Europeans, when (probably) 1 out of 4 white brunettes also go blonde? I remember, living in Canada, leading up to the Millennium, having a large ass was considered undesirable ("Does my bum look big in this?"), or a trait sought out by African or South American people. Now, living in the UK since 2000 (but also via America-centric media), bigger bums are better bums... but that fashion will change again, sooner or later.

In the non-European world, light skin gives you the appearance of having wealth or power because you've been living indoors, not working hard on a farm, in the hot sun, doing manual labour. This is a big deal in India, because there's also a North-South racial divide: southern (Dravidian) Indians are naturally a bit darker-skinned than their northern (Aryan) Indian cousins; so, to some northern Indians, ALL southerners seem low-class. Only white people prize pigment, but there are conditions. Summertime manual labourers will often get sunburnt above their shirt collar; so "red-necks" (with their white backs) have low prestige. However, if you've got a non-Original Equipment tan, that's as even as possible all over, you "worked hard" to get that, as a creature of leisure, relaxing on your back. A tan also represents health to whites, with too pale seeming unwell. A character on the show American Gods once described his preference for Nordic women, with their breasts veined like a fine blue cheese. I'm white, and I can tell you, that's not a look that works for everyone.
@strathottawa I like this theory here, but I think this is just something prefered in humans as a species, not really developed through history. Now it doesn't make it right, but you can't really fix people either.
Also rather I don't think people gravitate to those with lighter skin out of a thing of power, rather just because there's something that people find pretty in them. They just see them as less threatening, or they are automatically assumed to have better intentions than there darker counter parts.
