Never been pregnant so I wouldn’t know. It only bugs me when pregnant women rub their bellies while talking to someone. It’s just awkward. I had a teacher who kept rubbing her pregnant belly whilst giving lectures. Was not cool lol.
My sister didn’t hold her pregnant belly much until the bump got really big towards the end.
Lol well you would probably rub an area on you body that was aching or uncomfortable to sooth it too...
That makes sense, but this teacher was definitely not uncomfortable all those months. She was always telling us when the baby kicked, when it hurt, etc. She was super open about it. But her constant belly rubbing was distracting lol.
It's purely a very normal maternal instinct, to let baby know that you love and thinking of them growing, developing and moving inside, and that you cannot wait for them to come into the world.
It also helps when you're almost full term, in supporting some of the weight and relieving discomfort.
Try placing a 10 lb sack of any movable medium inside a tight fitting hoodie, at waist level!
Unconsciously your innate tendency is to use your hand to help take the aching strain off of your
abdominal and lower back muscles!

They don't always pose that way, actually. So a better question would be, "why do I only noticed pictures of pregnant women when they're holding their bellies". The answer is BECAUSE they're holding it.

As someone who does photography, typically its the way the photographer stylizes the photo. The purpose is to draw attention to the woman's pregnant belly. It's gives the impression of maternal affection and a gesture of nurturing.
As a woman who has been pregnant, being heavily pregnant isn't exactly the most comfortable thing in the world, supporting your pregnant belly helps.
I haven't been pregnant yet, but I would certainly do this.
1. because it makes the baby an important part of the picture.
2. I'm gonna want to hold that baby ASAP, so why not start early.
3. It would help show that I'm pregnant and not just "this girl likes her cupcakes..."
Never been pregnant but I'd imagine it's incredibly heavy and throws off your sense of balance and holding it probably helps with that.
Now, wouldn't those women in the pictures look weird if they just stood there with their arms at their sides? These are beautiful pictures of them.
An experienced photographer doing a decent pre-natal portfolio will go with 6-12 basic poses with many variations of each. This is simply a classic pose, as the mommy-to-be is hugging her baby in utero.
Depends on the woman. It's sort of a "look at how mom I'm about to be" kinda thing. I never did it, but then again I was also hiding the fact that I was preggers from half of my own family.
You should try being pregnant dude. I am sure there are some drugs to help with that
Nothing to do with posing is it. Women instinctively touch the baby growing inside of them, and also ‘protect’ it without thinking.
Probably the unconditional love for that little human growing in them. It's a nurturing motherly response but also so damn sexy
Ah the maternity shoots, well I have said whenever I'm expecting a little nugget I'll take some. The reason being is I guess they just want to show how much they're in love with the baby inside of them. It's probably the maternal instinct kicking in.
Because they are thinking "oh, look at my cute little baby in there" or some silly thing like that. That's what girls do. They try to be cute and stuff. Men don't think like that, that's why it seems funny to us.
I don't think it is insincere. I think it is a natural instictive. They find it cute. They carry a human being inside them. I don't think us men can understand this feeling completely so we shouldn't judge it.
It brings attention to the baby in their womb. It’s a sign of gentleness.
It's pregnancy pictures. The main point is the belly right? That's just the most natural way to make it the focus of the photo.
I get some of the "interpretations" above as to why women hold their pregnant bellies. BUT it has gone beyond that. It is DELIBERATE in POSED photos! I think it is vanity and showing off. It is like an ACCOM
PLISHMENT and nothing to do with the sentiment of the rest of the photo. IT IS THE PHOTO. I don't recall ever doing it so purposefully through my 2 pregnancies. Sorry I just find it a tad obnoxious.
in case anyone doesn't notice their bulging stomachs. trying to make it a tad more obvious. or maybe like they are hugging the baby. makes it seem sweeter and more endearing.
Same reason fat guys, like Santa, hold their bellies when they laugh. Women like feeling the baby moving and it's the first indication something is wrong if they don't feel movement.
That's her belly, not her stomach. Her stomach is an organ inside her body where food digestion starts. If she were holding her stomach, that would be really weird.
Maybe they just want it to be obvious in the picture.
It's for those who look at the photos - you can now see where exactly the baby is :)
Single girls show off their boobs in selfies. Knocked up girls show off their bellies. It's the biggest bump they have on their front at the moment...
Because it's an "expectant" pose.
The same way people always try and put on some sort of grin or smile in a selfie.
Because it's beautiful and it's the one pure thing they will feel In their lives in a lot of cases and it's just beautiful
ummmmm. because there is a baby in there. it's kinda the whole point of the picture
The baby is quite heavy and usually says with quite a motion to let me out
Shows their affection for their new child that will be coming. Plus it’s very attentive.
They do not have anything else to do with their hands.
It's the maternal instinct to hold and protect their babies.
I guess it means the baby is part of the photo before it comes out 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They usually do that when they’re showing their baby Off to
Someone
dude... that's not their stomach, lol..
The poor body and what it goes through.
@dustybiker isn't that marvelous...
It’s a very good simulation.
Perhaps it is an instinctive protective movement.
It's kind of the way bowlers hold the ball right before going into their motion. 🤣
To show that it's not fat
they're holding their pee in for the photoshoot.
It is an expression of love
Because other women do.
I’m not sure, but I don’t really like it.
Self consccious thing i guess
Not sure - but you are right, they do!
They are presumably cupping it lovingly
They are holding their baby
They’re cradling it
I don't think they always do!
I think that they are more romantic that way 😉
I have no idea
