Is she letting me down easy or is there still a chance?

My friend and I talk everyday. And I told her "this might be crazy but maybe me and you should date and see what happens between us". She said "um I'm not really in the position for it :( ." is still a chance or is she letting me down easy?

It could be a gentle let down or she could literally not be in the position for it... i. e works crazy hour and studying, illness in the family or any sort of major stresser...
Or if its something like she can't be with you because she's already dating married engaged betrothed or there's conflicting religious or cultural beliefs...
You would probably know more if she's under a lot of pressure and stress or there's a conflict that prevents you from being with her If she is than ot maybe just as she says... Not in the position to do soBut if all is going well for her, there's no conflictions of beliefs or cultures she has an easy going routine has dated here or there and is currently single then yes its probably a gentle let down.
