I dont want to argue much but i want to understand why women love these expensive luxury brands.
Does it make them feel rich or high class?
I mean we Guys like our nVidia RTX videocards because they give us powerful processing power for our video games and so the screen does not stutter whenever we are gaming. The same way i want to understand women's desire for expensive luxury brand products.
Women crave status over actual value or accomplishment. No one sees my stock portfolio, which generates income. But, if I buy a Corvette, they see the $80,000 depreciating asset. I might spend a grand at a race track one day to take a Corvette a few laps around the track, but I can’t see buying a race car for my daily transportation.
I did get a good deal on a used Lexus, that I bought to drive for Lyft and Uber. I’m so unimpressed with status symbols, I remind people it’s a “Toyota Camry with a leather interior and walnut dashboard,” and I maintain it with Camry parts.
I got complimented on my car once at a Waffle House. I asked the waitress “Is that your car next to mine.” She said it was. I said “We’re both driving Hondas.” She pointed out mine was new and her’s was twelve years old I said “My other car is 21-years-old. I’m just at the beginning of a twenty year cycle. This car will be older than yours when I get rid of it.”
I also got chewed out at the Baptist Student Union in graduate school for asking some young ladies if their attitudes towards diamonds were examples of the sin of idolatry.
To me, the only way you can make a pocketbook worth $10,000 is to put 99 Benjamin’s inside it, but put a designer label on it and women will pay it.
I know, men buy status items, too, but it’s mainly to impress shallow, superficial women and get laid. I’ve told men to buy the cheaper items, take the money they save to Kuhio Avenue, and pick up the same class of woman.
It's just a result of marketing strategies that highly influence people and motivate them to buy those expensive stuff even if they can't afford it.
That's not just about women luxury items but it involves all the other items. In case of men, it can be clothes, watches, wallets, and the list goes on.

Furthermore i got my wallet from a good brand, that is not ripping me off and is not shoving its logotype into our faces like Nike and Adidas do.
Not all women like these brands lol. Idgaf where my shit was made or came from... as long as it looks good to me, I like it, and I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. Then I'm happy. I won't spend more than $60 on a purse, $30 on a pair of sunglasses, $80 on a pair of shoes, $60-$80 on a jacket/coat... and thats if I'm buying brand new lol. I would much rather thrift my clothes and pay half the price for double the amount. Plus you find one of a kind items and can even still find good branded shit. I find it absolutely absurd to spend more than like $30 tops on an article of clothing lol. And thats even expensive to me. The only items of clothing I won't buy thrifted is my underwear obviously. I won't even buy real/expensive jewelry. The fake shit looks just as good. I will lose or break it eventually lol. Better to just keep it cheap and simple so I don't throw my money away. 😅 Brands don't mean shit.. our graves will all be the same ✌️

You get what u pay for. I have a few LV, Versace, and Dior purses, but I also have many Coach and Calvin Klein purses. I don't like Michael Kors b/c that fucker has been around since I was in high school and now suddenly he's famous and wants to charge $300 for his PVC coated purses? lol They're not leather. Chanel and Dior have wonderful skincare products, but Estee Lauder I have been using for like 30 years, so I still use that as well. U get what u pay for and u'll figure that out someday. Just like the tools my husband uses.. MATCO and Milwaukee Tools. Snap On is like the Old Navy of tools lol. I don't know about video games.
Eh, i am sure its not that very often true, that you get what you pay for. Some cheaper things offer more for less money. Iphone vs Android for example.
“You get what you pay for” is only half true. If you buy something incredibly cheap, you get what you pay for. If you spend huge amounts of money, you might just be wasting it on a name and status. In the ‘80’s. The second cheapest car made was the Hyundai Excel. It was $7,000. The cheapest was the Yugo GV at $4,000. It wasn’t unusual for them to break down on the way home from the dealership.
About that same time, 1988, my father was looking at a Lincoln Town Car. He walked across the showroom and looked at a Mercury Grand Marquis. He saw that it was essentially the same car for $15,000 less and bought it. He would NOT have gotten what he paid for by spending more.

I have a picture of myself as a little baby, and her Pinto in the background. My husband fixed a tranny on a Gran Marquis recently.. Those were cool cars. Now ur talking about cars. Change the convo completely! someone brought in a '63 Ford Fairlane yesterday. If u want to compare material stuff to cars.. no. I favor GMC/Chevy, but I still love all cars.

Back then to develop a big name was because they set themselves apart with significant eye-catching styles, and good sourced materials. Today, some (not all) big name brands are only famous because of they’re net worth was and how much money was funded into them or endorsing them, though they may have had little talent and not the best quality merchandise. Money can be considered a ‘style.’ People will wear anything ‘ugly’ that is linked to money. It’s just how that game works. Women don’t mind spending a lot of money on big name fashion, as well because it makes them feel pampered and worth. (Again, not all women, but a good few) They’ll equate money with good quality. Expensive ice cream? May buy it every now and then to feel fancy, though a low end brand may taste even better.
I have no idea I don’t care for bags like that. I don’t understand wasting money on things like that. I don’t understand dropping hundreds on alcohol either. Like you’re literally drinking your money away. But everyone has their vices I suppose. I like video games and don’t bat an eye when I’m dropping $80 on a new game but would cringe spending that on an item of clothing; or alcohol. So I guess everyone has specific likes and dislikes and can justify spending money on things that make them happy.
I personally see it as investments. I take great care of my items and if at any point I don't want them anymore or if I need some quick cash there will always be buyers.
From a quality POV, I've also noticed a huge difference. You can trust these items not to disintegrate after wearing them twice and that's a plus too.

Even if items last longer, there’s a limit to what that’s worth. If a Rolls Royce came with an unlimited mileage lifetime warranty, it still wouldn’t be worth the cost. I can invest $400,000 in stocks and by a new Toyota Avalon every two years off the dividends.
I bought several pairs of shoes from Payless when they were going out of business. Their shoes are cheap crap and fall apart after a year or so. Some of those shoes were under $20, so if they last a year, I got my money’s worth.
Status... social status is a major factor for them. Like when you run into a female while gaming... it's probably being streamed. They don't play just to play 9 times out of 10. Playing just to have fun or be the best without recognition makes no sense to the female brain. Just my opinion.
I'd say it was more to do with society and the social side more than actually "loving" the brands. Same when people have flashy cars and a huge house. Their viewed as higher up and treated differently in society. This isn't a new thing either. Society has always been this way.
Personally I'm not really into expensive brands. Most are just over priced and over rated, but that's just my opinion.
I think a lot of women go for the "Ohh, look at me, aren't I wonderful" aspect and others because having those brands makes them feel good.
I buy some luxury brands because of the way they are made but rarely just because of the name. I do like a specific brand of luggage, perfume and wrist watch (none of them listed above) but beyond that I'm not fussed.
I don't know because i don't have one lol but me as a beauty enthusiast i just wanna look good ya know. i just wanna be prettyand sexy and wear stuff that nakes me look goid. i think women wanna wear expensive bags because of the quality and it's ego boost just like guys wanna have those expensive cars
Women are competitive, much more than men, and they compete with other women, it makes them feel important. If a woman sees another woman with a Gucci bag, she wants one for herself, otherwise she feels inferior to the other woman, and that's unacceptable.
To be fair, some men compete with other men in a similar way (especially with cars and trucks) but it's not as common.
Same as guys like expensive things like Rolex, gold chains, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, audio.
It can be a status thing, look what I can buy, but it still doesn't make you a better person inside, that is what is the most important thing.

Whats worse is peoples love for million dollar diamonds. Crystal bling is just as shiny as diamond bling. Only addef value to the price is that crystal will be shattered with a hammer, diamonds won't because they are harder than metal or any other substance on earth.
I don’t get it too. I don’t like luxurious brands. I would rather if I needed to get something, go to a thrift shop, local sale, or online shops (but I would buy at an ethical and trustworthy store) since COVID-19 is happening.

I’m honestly not into it and it’s especially not worth it for those high end brands. I think women who do are either really materialistic or they have social status insecurity, owning those brands makes them “appear” to have more money even though they are in credit card debt, don’t make a lot of money etc.
In some cases I think these women do it to attract men who will treat them as “high maintenance”.
I think it has to do with the media. THey think it is worth it but take a look at the fabrication process. They slave people, materials are nothing special and absolutely careless of the environment. At the end of the day you are just paying for the designer's yatch trip. I rather be more intelligent with my money than that

My ex made substantially more than me and he blew it on new cars, buying a house out of his budgeting scope and other women, which is exactly the reason I had cover him financially during the 2009 recession when he was made bankrupt and why I had to loan him £8k in 2010 to get back on his feet, also why I wasn't able to save up to buy a house until four years after leaving him. I guess money just burns a hole in some people's pockets.

It has something to do with status, but more to finishing a look. Bringing your best, and that best is perfection. Status is a part of that perfection. Being the most desired woman in the room , even if for just one night. It also is an upgrade to power, but it doesn't stop studders, it invites studders. I grants the woman value, and respect that she can't get any other way. And it's the first impression that she must retain at any given situation if she is going to be heard.

Would it yield the same effect to buy cheaper fakes produced in China? I heard some places like Tbilisi sell those for significantly less money. I know of a few places selling those for 15% their original MSRP.

But what is “quality?” I can see a higher up-front price for a car if it lasts longer and has lower maintenance costs. I see people driving Mercedes diesels from the ‘80’s as their daily transportation, with over 300,000 miles on them. But, I also have a friend who drive a Honda Accord for 28 years, so would a Mercedes have been worth the cost difference?

The most expensive one I know of was about $400,000, it was a special Hermes Birkin and Oprah owns one... depends on the aspect of quality because tools can last a generation or more and furniture can last centuries

I saw it in a similar perspective. No joke, a coat one of them selling for nearly 2000 bucks and it had a brownish—reddish —orange like rectangular pattern. I think it was from Burberry. A very similarly looking coat i could find in a bazaar or in a retail for %5 of its listed price. The Same pattern and color i found a scarf from Burberry and again in a bazaar, marketplace, retail for 5-10% of the listed price.
A nice bag does not bring lasting happiness, very rich people like Nicky Hilton hardly wear any designer bags at all.
I'm a luxury brand collector. I owned them because I like to collect exclusive stuff and to me certain pieces are a form of art that I like to admire.
Same reason men fancy certain cars and bikes — for status and because those products look good.

@grega239 fair enough. The funny thing is i find good looking pieces for 25-100 dollars and they are solid, so no degradation after a week or several years.
Now that i looked at those shops, i can find most of these items in regular retail. But the logotype isn't there. And if it is, the merchant sells those fake/stolen products. Heard they can produce and smuggle them easily. Supply chain enabled it.
