Checking in with guy friend?

So I've not talked to this girl I'm friends with in a few months. She then texts me saying how she's checking in with me which I said she didn't have to. She then proceeds to tell me she's unhappy but happy she met someone. Like honestly what's the point of checking in with me?

She was probably just checking in i do it sometimes with friends i hadn't talked to or also she could be wanting advice on something from a guys perspective considering she met someone new.
