Boyfriend doesn't text good morning or good night - he's extremely busy but am I wasting my time? Should I text him? I'm so stumped?

He says he wants a relationship. He's incredibly busy. I understand, etc. But it takes 5 seconds to text good morning or good night. I texted him all last week to minimal response and it's like am I wasting my time. Should I back off so don't seem needy. I'm stumped.
