Girls, do you have any rules when it comes to hugging a male friend? Do you mind being hugged by them?

I have a tendency to hug my lady friends, usually if it's a special occasion or if I haven't seen them in a while. I never hug them tight, it's just a quick type of hug. I've been wondering lately if I could be out of line. I used to wait for them to ask for a hug or actually initiate it but I figured it would be a nice gesture if I initiate it. Do you girls mind if your guy friends give you a friendly hug without asking?

I saw a friend the other night at my local country club, hadn't seen her in years. She had been drinking (a little). We put our arms out to hug, as we we hugged, I gave her a pat on her back. She pushed me backwards and slapped me! Looked at me and said, "I'm not your bro! Don't pat my back like you just got done petting a dog"! I think giving a hug to a good friend is ok. Just don't pat her back.

I guess it just depends on my level of friendship with them. I usually never decline a hug but I only request or initiate a hug if I have a close relationship with someone or if they're upset.

I don't think I would necessarily be bothered by a quick hug in greeting/leaving. I would definitely try to make it a side-hug though. I would feel uncomfortable if the person was constantly trying to hug every time and we didn't have that deeper level of friendship.

I don't have any rules, it's just like any other normal hug for me. I offer hugs to my friends and those close to me quite a few times.

That's how I am. I will always give my girl cousins hugs and think nothing of it. I always give my aunts and uncles hugs if I haven't seen them for a while.
