Bikinis and underwear are basically the same thing. So why do women get embarrassed if they're seen in underwear?

I think that most swimwear is designed to be opaque even when wet (and I do know that a small amount of swimwear is designed to be transparent, but it's a small percentage.) Much of women's underwear is somewhat transparent when dry and even more so when wet. And bikinis do not reveal camel toes to the extent that panties do.
Thanks for MHO!
Much underwear is far more "see-through" than the average swimwear. Also, when a woman wears a bikini, she is prepared for others to see her. In underwear that is not necessarily so.
There is also the problem that the subset of women who get embarrassed might not even be of the same subset who wear skimpy swimwear.
But they aren't tho?
Anyways, today was... nice. Went to my job, meditated... then took a nap. The difference is I meditate for 8 minutes and i'm still alert and awake. And when i nap... well i can still hear but... and for those times, i didn't really dream. So kinda felt like i was in a meditation mode... interestin, eh?
It’s honestly silly, but bikinis are seen as outerwear while bras and panties are well, underwear. There really is no difference aside from the stigma around them and how they’re worn.

as always, its the consent that men have issues with understanding...
underwear is seen as a barrier and more intimate garment that is intended for more exclusive "eyes" and feelings. bikini/bathing suits are the person consenting to the wider audience viewing them like so.
Bikinis are fine in a beach or swimming environment, women have no problem with that.
Underwear, however, is usually shown off in a private or intimate setting, and if a random guy sees a woman in her underwear, that's no longer private.
Well i dont mind showing off either...
But the difference is onc is accepted in society as appropriate to wear n show in public n the other is considered inappropriate in public
Well, they're not even "basically" the same, since most swimwear is thicker than underwear, and lingerie.
So, that's your answer.
They are "basically" the same. There's something called padded bras, which most women wear. And I'm not talking about when underwear is wet and potentially more transparent. I'm talking about the fact that they cover the same parts. In many cases, bikinis are much more revealing and thinner than underwear. And yet women get embarrassed in it just due to societal conditioning.
So that's not "my answer".
It's not about coverage, it's about the type and purpose of garment.
Actually, I went to school with a girl who creates her own swimsuit line. Outside those items The materials are vastly different, she even takes them a step further.
Swimsuits are more of a latex type material to handle repeated drenching in water. Underwear is more for made for comfort and generally not as robust ( granted a bikini is not really robust but it is more so than most under garments). At least that's how she explained things to us.
Uh cause one is a choice to wear in public and the other is not
They're not the same thing at all
The guy that invented the Bikini was a perv. Who wanted to normalize woman wearing their bras and panties so he could see them running around in them on the beach.
a thong is more like wearing dental floss at times while a bikini bottom is much fuller.
Don't know. Some females are a joke.
Agreed there. But a lot of guys are too, so it evens out 😂
Because one is designed to be worn publicly, the other not
None of the women I know are concerned there's a difference. LOL
And why is it wrong for a women to wear lingerie out, but they can wear bikinis out
Sarcasm?
I mean kinda…I feel like underwear at the beach would be noticeable. Even if covers the same.
I have often wondered this myself!
Underwear are thinner
Because some underwear are see through.
Because they dont see it as the same thing.
