Could a girl ever decide not to pursue a relationship because she thinks that the guy is too good for her?

Sure. That is entirely possible if she is insecure and thinks she isn't good enough. That is no different than a guy not pursuing a girl that he thinks is out of his "league". To be honest I don't care for the whole "out of my league" nonsense but there are many people with that mindset. Most of it as I mentioned comes down to there own insecurities. That can be anything from the way they perceive themselves looks-wise to thinking they don't have enough to offer. What I mean by that is maybe they are young and not quite have their life put together with a career, etc. A girl can feel the same way about a guy and then decide in her mind that she doesn't stand a chance and therefore doesn't bother trying.

So let’s say John makes it completely clear to Jane that he is ready to have a relationship with her. Jane finds herself to be attracted to John, yet decides not to accept the relationship because she perceives him to be in ”too high of a league” for her. She dodges the relationship with him despite knowing she could get him, and despite being attracted to him. Would this train of thought make sense for a very insecure or shy girl?
