The chameleon effect is a phenomenon that finds you mimicking gestures or facial expressions of the people we interact with. It causes you to subconsciously make behavioral changes to match the behavior of people in your close social circles.
The phenomenon obviously gets its name from the animal that changes the appearance of its skin to blend into any environment it finds itself in.
The effect is often subtle and we may not even notice it when we do so. Some of the ways this phenomenon might manifest itself are speech and facial expressions, like mimicking the verbal expressions or speech patterns of a friend or using the same tone of voice as the person you are talking with.
Has this ever happened to you? Do you notice it on a concious level? Like the person is talking slower or in a softer tone than he/she normally does with other people?
What does it mean? Affection, liking or just being in tone with the other one?
