Is mirroring another person's speech a sign of interest?

It has been said that mirroring another person's body language could be a sign of interest. What about speech mirroring?

I notice he picks up on my catchphrases and re-uses them during conversations with me or with others.

He also tends to recall trivial things I had mentioned from conversations months ago - it always catches me by surprise because even I had forgotten about the things I've said.

So... either he has an excellent memory, or he is actually showing signs of interest?

no it's just a good way to communicate, it's the same as if you're were talking to a group of kids you'd use the words they use

unfortunately people are so desperate to be liked and to KNOW that they are liked that they read into every little thing a person of the opposite gender does to see if that means they like them

*mirroring does not mean a person likes you, it could just be that the person read a book or saw it on some website and just thought he/she would do it, the bottom line is if you like someone you like someone, it doesn't matter if they drink when you drink or if they pick their nose when you pick your nose, please use common sense with this stuff and don't believe everything you're told.

Disagree.

People definitely pick up on others speech patterns, catch phrases, body languages with people they spend the most time with and like. If you work long enough with coworkers you'll see this happen to yourself and with other coworkers. You can easily tell which friends are close to each other from this alone.

And people DO subconsciously mirror the body language of someone they fancy

well that anon seems to not know what he is talking about. people do mirror speech patterns of those they like example when my buddy started to date his girlfriend he picked up some of her speech patterns. This happens to a lot of couples but it can also happen to really close friends. It is a sign of interest but not one you should base everything off of.

To me, that sounds like he is interested. But if he were to be interested, I'd assume he would have made a move by now.

Based on this alone, no.

Maybe more so if he was mirroring tone/infliction but not just using words you use.

Eh maybe but I think physical mirroring is a bigger sign.

I know there are books written about mirroring. In my experience, you can't tell. If this is the only thing you have to go on then he's probably not interested.

Recalling things from conversations sounds like me with someone I'm interested in, so he could be.
