Mirroring people's facial expressions - what can it mean when someone mirrors your facial expressions and/or bady language?

E. g. When you blush/go red in the face, they also go bright red & copy your facial expressions?
Or when your stressed / in a bad mood, they become stressed out, too. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️

For example: Your boss, sees that your upset/stressed out, in a group conversation,
and you can see out the side of your eye, that they're staring at your face intensely & are mirroring your facial expressions e. g. when YOU blush or go bright red, they also go bright red.
What does this mean?

It entirely depends.

I'm a highly empathic person. I'm also a highly trained communicator and businesswoman.

From an emapthic perspective: involuntary responses like blushing or yawning is an indicator of empathy. Voluntary responses like mirroring your pained or sad expression shows they feel for you.

From a communication perspective: lightly mirroring someone's behaviour is often subconsciously interpreted as "like", and can help the person you're communicating with feel at ease and understood. This makes it easier for you to speak more frankly with them.

In cases when you're displaying negative emotion, however, unconscious mirroring can be very bad. It can feed that emotion, or encourage it in a bad way.

In your example, it's hard to say. I would read this in that your boss is trying very hard to understand you.

However, going off subliminal body language is not ideal in professional settings. Many people choose to present a specific face at work, but are still human and have moments where they may slip in their facade.

Usually means you are both clicking well.

It's hard to fake a real connection. Those who do have a delay as they force the reaction a bit. Those who aren't faking react nearly as quickly to your changes like a set of chameleons lol

I do it mostly when the girls face expression seems inappropriate for the situation.

when a girl smiles at me for no reason I try to smile back even if I look creepy

or when one is mad I do the mad dog face to kinda mirror her looks.

it's more of a defensive thing if I actively do it, knowing what the next move is may be important to stay on top
