I just stopped I’m not sixteen anymore do I really need to dress goth and get piercings and wear only black and only listen to goth music and make it my whole life? It’s just not as relevant as it was when I was a teenager with nothing else to do, didn’t have to hold down a job to support myself and work day in day out fear of losing money not eating etc.
when you’re teenager in parents house you can live like a rockstar but as an adult, gothic mess isn’t even relevant anymore I’m afraid.

I had long hair and a hippie/rock star persona by age 17 (1971) until I got a really good job in 1980 when I was 26. I had to cut my hair and wear a suit. It took me a few years to acclimate to my new persona, but I eventually grew up and became part of the real world.
Being part of a subculture definitely had its limitations. I'm glad that tats and piercings weren't popular back then.
Yeah it does have its limits lol. Do you think it’s basically a young person thing? I tried to go back, recapture the feeling but I don't know it’s just not the same. You probably have to be less experienced in life and be more sheltered to really be into subcultures.
Though I know some old goth emo hippies might exist. You don’t really see them. I work retail and I see tons of customers and it’s just not seen very much at all.
I think it's definitely a young person thing. You do it for popularity in school. You can get away with it because you still live with your parents and have no responsibilities. You think it's cool because you and your friends have no life experience. You think you are edgy and cool. You think grown ups are old and dumb.
