What is it with grandmothers trying to set their granddaughters up?

I’ve seen old women showing like teenage girls bagging groceries photos of her granddaughter trying to set them up together. It’s not the only time I’ve seen it either I’ve seen it many times where older women are trying to set their granddaughter up with random dudes.

LOL. They just think they're seeing a nice young man who would be an eligible bachelor for their granddaughters... It's an age-old matchmaking thing.

Actually, the guy I was seeing the past few months had just broken things off with a gal he'd met that way. They were engaged apparently and she broke it off bc he told her that his (v elderly) mom would have to stay with them bc he's her caretaker. (Selfish gal... not like he said they'd all sleep in the same room, you know? But WHO ELSE is supposed to tend to the person who took care of you from Day 1?)

My grandparents are not alive anymore but my aunt has who is a grandmother. Recently she thought I should date an old classmate of mine who literally doesn’t even notice me haha


But really, I talked about it with my mom because I think that’s a bit weird and my mom says that guy may have some mental health issues and has too much going on in his life. That would not make a good relationship. I’m not attracted to him anyway. But it’s not the first time my aunt tried to set me up with some random dude and I have no idea why she even tries.

Romantic stuff does not stop being interesting just because you're older. If they aren't dating, they can still give you a hand.

Plus, someone has to do something to ensure they get grand-grandkids.

Also, honestly? Many come from a time where that would be a more expected thing.

I mean... grandma and grandkid probably have different taste. And even beyond that, being set up with anyone is very awkward.

If interested you kind of have to just segway away to alone time. A walk or whatever. Chuckle together about how strange a situation it is and then get to know each other because... what else are you to do?
