I've known a woman coworker for about a year, working remotely on the same project. We met in person once at a joint event, and nothing romantic happened then. Recently, we've been discussing plans for the next in-person meeting in a few months. She seemed enthusiastic about it during a recent 1-1 online meeting and asked for recommendations on places to visit in the event's city via WhatsApp.
I was planning to invite her to do an activity together after the event. Recently, I complimented her work ethic based on her supervisor's praise. She responded, "That is very sweet of you!" I replied, agreeing with the supervisor's assessment.
Since then, she hasn't responded to my work-related messages for over 3 days, despite being active in a shared WhatsApp group. In this group, she's reacted to my messages with emojis but hasn't directly replied to my work messages.
I'm unsure if I've done something wrong, as I've kept things mostly work-related, though I may have texted more frequently recently. I'm wondering if she's trying to distance herself or indicate a lack of interest.
The situation is complicated by the fact that our collaboration ends in about three weeks, after which she goes on vacation. I'm questioning why she would cut contact now when she could easily disconnect after the project ends.
I'm seeking advice on whether to still ask her out at the joint event or leave it be. While I'm not typically attached, I find her interesting and want to consider my options before giving up.
