Why do women’s reaction change when they a notice a woman talking to a guy?

So I was at the doctors today and this girl I knew from back in high school approached me. She was there with her kid. As I was talking to her catching up, I noticed the other women in the room were looking over at me and really smiling. It was like a light switch turned on. Before this girl approached me I was like a ghost in the waiting room. Why the change in reaction?

Were you interacting much with your friend's kid? (I have no idea if this is like an infant, or a teenager).

More like an infant or toddler. Like just walking. And no. We were just talking and catching up. It was like they were attracted or something. But they were there with their kids too. I went in the morning in my work clothes.

Well, there goes my theory about them seeing your softer side while entertaining her kid.

Still, is it maybe that in seeing you catching up with your friend, they liked what they saw of your personality? Like you went from "guy in work clothes" to "that intelligent funny guy."

That's all I can really come up with. I don't think it was because you were talking to another woman (as the reason for the change). But I can't say I know what happened here. That's just my only guess.

Ok thanks. Normally I get looked at weird. But this one woman with her kid checking in went out of her way looking and smiling as I was talking to the girl. I don’t know. It never happened before. I’m normally like a shadow on the wall lol.

I think my theory might be right after hearing this.

If you usually get weird looks, and feel like a shadow on the wall: something made you appear different in that moment. If your looks don't highlight what kind of person you are (which can be the case sometimes if your introverted). Seeing you interacting with your friend would have personalized you. If the shadow on the wall suddenly reveals that he's a nice, intelligent, caring dude... that is going to change the way a woman sees you.
