Some boys seem heartless because they were never taught how to deal with emotions in a healthy way. A lot of guys grow up being told to “man up,” “don’t cry,” or “hide your feelings,” so they learn to shut down instead of communicate. That doesn’t make their behavior okay, but it explains why some act cold, distant, or careless.

Other boys act heartless because they’re immature, scared of vulnerability, or don’t know how to love someone the right way yet. Being emotionally unavailable is often a sign of their own wounds, not a reflection of your worth.

A real man isn’t heartless. He communicates, he cares, and he takes accountability. Immature boys shut down, but emotionally grown men show up.

Hurting people hurt. I know it doesn't make it easier when you're the one hurting but I try to wonder what happened to them? Why do they hurt so hard that's the only way they can find for release? I hope somehow, someway, someday we can stop this cycle.

I imagine this might be in respect to gender politics. The fundamental reason you can expect some changes to occur is that as women become more competitive, men cease to cut women the break they traditionally used to and more interact with women in the manner they do with men.
