What age is it okay to pierce a little girl's ears?

My mom said I got mine pierced when I was a baby (6 months). I have 2 girls ages 7 and 4. My husband and I agreed that we would wait till they asked. The oldest asked so I took her to get them done. Then the youngest asked at the store. So I went ahead and got it done too. Husband was mad and said she was too young. I said she asked so I said okay.

I never got mine pierced and my wife had hers done as a baby by her parents but neither of us wear earrings (me for obvious reasons lol). It made a dilemma for us because we weren't sure what would work best. We ended up deciding that 10 was a good age and only if our daughter wanted them. It wouldn't be something we would ever force on her.

In her case, she really did want earrings and so when she turned 10 we got them done. Now she has a ton of them (especially Disney's Stitch earrings) and swaps them out regularly.

I really don't like taking away a person's agency by piercing their ears (or for that matter, a boy getting circumcised) without their consent. I feel like that's abuse. Let a person decide what they want done to their own body.

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer. Comes down to the parent’s preference. My mom pierced my ears as a baby and im glad she did. if I have a daughter I’ll likely do the same

You should ask your husbands opinions as well, on matters regarding the kids.

You don't just listen to the kids.

That's how you end up with CPS taking them away.

Old enough to ask and understand what the process entails and can clean them by themselves (parental assistance to make sure its actually clean too)
