Why would a store clerk go beyond policy and chat with me like this?

I had a female store clerk who told me she'll take the heat from her boss from me because their store policy i had to pay over $5 on debit card purchases at her store then she left her station and walked towards exit door where I was then we started talking about batman flawed neck movement technology and multiple flawless short conversations without any social anxieties. She also signal me that our conversation was ending and she didn't show any annoyances from our conversations. When she talked about batman I was impressed about our shared interests on batman and DC.

Normally employees at some places will decline any transactions under $5 for examples.

This just depends maybe she needed someone to talk to to get through the day, maybe it was customer service, or maybe she liked you. It’s hard to say without being there what was going on.

I have this happen a lot where people want to talk all day I can generally read what the intentions are based on their body language and tone of voice etc. I’ve also never been in a store with that limit

My guess is that she is bored and figured you were someone who might listen to her ramblings. I wouldn't read anything else into her actions unless she does it again, and gets more personal.

Maybe they genuinely enjoyed talking to you or felt a personal connection. Sometimes people just go beyond their usual professional boundaries when they feel comfortable with someone.

They don’t go out of their way unless they are attracted to you or they think you’re a real nice guy either way it’s the same thing Almost girls are attracted to good guys
