Why do so many women struggle with low self-esteem despite being attractive?

I've known quite a few girls that were gorgeous and they saw themselves as hideous!!
I went to college with a girl that was a combination of Debby Harry and Marylin Monroe and EVERY guy on campus wanted to fuck her but, she thought she was fat and ugly!! HOW?
Another friend I met in college wasn't gorgeous but, she was pretty and a real sweetheart and there WERE a number of guys interested in her. But, rather than leave her sick, abusive boyfriend and look for something better, she felt she would never find anyone if she left him!! After she divorced him about a decade ago, she almost immediately found another boyfriend and has had at least two more since then!!
I'll tell ya what I think it is! Either, people telling you you don't look nice without make-up or the latest clothes or you read too many of those stupid fashion mags that use photoshop and airbrushing to make their models look way better than they actually are and then keep expecting YOU to live up to those fake standards!!

It’s nonsense. Ever since “body dysmorphia” became a public buzzword, suddenly millions of gorgeous women are “hideous”. It’s just another means of attracting attention to themselves and fishing for compliments. The actual disease is extremely rare, but nobody is going to say that because there’s money to be made.

I don’t know. I’ve always thought I was ugly. Even as a young child. I remember being in daycare and thinking I was ugly and wouldn’t join the teacher and other kids to play a board game that looked fun because ”they probably don’t want me to join them anyway because I’m ugly”. I’ve always had severe social anxiety, been very shy and quiet, and been insecure about my looks.

Maybe this happens with some mental problems but I never observed that.
Pretty girls know they are pretty since kindergarten or even sooner. People have a weakness for beauty but there is counter reaction in shape of aggression, that's why pretty people are careful. Not because they are insecure about their appearance.

If a person lives their personal lives by constantly comparing themselves to others than low self esteem is often the result as there's always going to be someone that is better or doing better than you in some aspects of life.
