Why is a shy guy angry with me?

So I recently went up to a shy guy in my class and started to speak to him, anyways before we finished our convo I told him "u know what I had to come up to you cos your so eye catching" at that moment he blushed and said cool we can conversate more offten and we left it as that I would like to add he was pleasant during our convo. Now he ignores me and is rude to me when I approach him. I once approached him because I caught him staring at me but wen we locked eyes he looked away fast but I walked up to him anyways to make general conversation but he was so rude to me I had to walk away...so what's his deal. I do catch him staring at me when we're in same room but he usually has a serious expression on his face.

He's shy. And you probably make him nervous because he likes you. Sort of like Hey Arnold with mean Helga but she really liked him. He just doesn't know how to react.

But I did mean what I said cos if I didn't why would I have attempted to talk to him again surely that should have been a sign to him that I'm genuine?
