Do women prefer being friends first?

Question

Girls, when you first meet a guy, do you prefer ...

A) Being friends first. Get to know him. Give it some time to see if hanging out together is fun.

B) Jumping straight into dating. I would prefer to just start dating and be straightforward.

C) Either is fine. No preference.

D) I want to see the results.

Not every guy is going to be "boyfriend material" (There is no universal definition, just women's personal definition). I like to start off as friends with any guy I meet. It gives us time to get to know each other, discover any common interest or chemistry, all without pressure. I can build up trust with them before I put my heart on the line in the dating world. When I'm friends with someone and we hang out, I have the chance to catch on to their great qualities and potentially find some things that are turn offs for me. If I don't even start to think of them romantically or if they aren't "boyfriend material", then I don't have to give them the whole "hey... I don't think this is going to work out/ I don't feel any sparks" speech; we're already just friends. If I do feel butterflies around them, then I can tell the guy that I think we should move our relationship out of the "just friends" zone.  I feel that this way is less hurtful in the end.

I'm fine with either. If we meet and I am attracted to you, getting to know you as a friend first is a nice way to know if the potential relationship would last, if we have anything to talk about during dates or if it's really just physical. On the other hand, I can also find that out on one or two dates, without getting too intimate with you. of course it's nice to know what kind of a guy you're letting yourself in for, to know beforehand whether you can depend upon him, trust him, if he's worth it. But if I am not friends with you, we meet and I like you (not your looks per se but the way you talk, your sense of humour, if you show me respect, etc) then I'm not going to say "sorry buddy, but I'd like to put the option of you being great for me on hold until I know you in and out and lose some of the thrill of a budding relationship and finding all that stuff out. let's be friends?"

oh my gosh you have no idea how hard it is for me to go from a friend relationship to a dating relationship. I want to know you are interested in me, and get to know you by dating and hanging out. Even if I just knew from the beginning that you liked me and we hung out and then you asked me out. I just need to know where you see this (whatever it is) going, so I can know if I want to participate or not. does that make sense? friends first is horrible in my eyes. once you're my friend ( I hate to say it) I really can't see you as something else. UNLESS I knew from the very beginning that you liked me and I reciprocated said feelings.

it depends on the girl.

most of the girls just wanted to jump into a relationship after they got to know you after a while

only one of my gfs wanted to wait it out and be friends first and this relationship ended in what I call Badly and ruined everything. in the long run.

and for the morons crying, THE FRIEND ZONE, STFU. there is no such thing unless you allow it to exist and control you. you can always get out of this "Friendzone"

Depends on the girl. Some of my female friends MUST get to know a guy really well and be friends first to make sure they are compatible and skip the "breaking the ice" part. Some of them want to keep their date guys and friends guys separate, as in, he can't be both a friend and a lover.

I don't think most girls will have an issue, though. A good guy will stand out whether he has known her for 3 years or 3 hours.

Women claim they want to start as friends all the time, but this is just another example of why you never take dating advice from a woman. If she likes you, she doesn't want to be friends, she wants to be dating. If you try to remain friends for too long, you get stuck in the friend zone even if she liked you to begin with.

I think anyone who takes more than a few months to make it official they're dating knows that, technically you become friends first. This is not a bad thing, btw.

You enjoy each others' company, you're feeling each other out.

Someone who hangs out with you, is a friend. A friend is someone who enjoys your company, and you enjoy theirs.

I do not feel it is  good to be friends  before or after the relationship because  it be becomes awkward or drama after breaking up ; in my opinion it is best to jump friend zone and go straight to dating and after the relationship ends to stay as familiar strangers .

Typically I would say starting off as friends is the best way to build stable grounds for a relationship. But in my case, I'd have to say jumping into a relationship was the best decision I've ever made. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year and we made things official two weeks after we met. I couldn't be happier, but not everyone is as lucky as me and finds their prince charming so soon!

Everyone, male or female, prefers being friends first before dating someone.
The only exceptions to that rule are idiots and sociopaths.
If you want a lasting relationship, you absolutely have to be friends first, it just doesn't work out otherwise (unless you are win the lottery level lucky with your date choice).

It has been my experience that girls want to jump into a relationship right away, without even knowing as much as the guys last name (that was incredibly frequent that they knew little about me and really didn't care as they just wanted to have a relationship; incredibly infuriating)

Well...I'd say b but it stills depend. The problem for me is once I'm friend with a guy, it's almost impossible to see him as more than that. Usually, from the start, there are innuendo that could bring to dating.

It depends on the situation, but as a general rule, I think friends first is a good option. I don't want to be intimate with someone I know nothing about. Friendship makes you respect someone before you add any additional commitment.

I tried the friends first thing once 10 years ago. It was an awful experience. Apparently I forgot that and tried it again recently. 2 worst dating experiences of my life, hands down. Only two women that have ever stood me up were friends first.
