Girls when you hold prolonged eye contact with someone in passing, what are you looking for?

Are you trying to see if he's intimidated by you and looks away? What if he holds eye contact for longer than 5secs? What if he doesn't smile at all but just holds eye contact for long? I always have girls looking at me and I just stare them down lol, no smile no anything and eventually they look away. Just curious as to what they're looking for. Thanks for your inputs

When I look at a guy in passing it's usually because he's cute, or because I know him, or because I know him and he's a jerk. If he's really cute I smile as well. Sometimes I even just look at him, when he looks at me and smiles, or trips or something I look away and laugh a little, and think to myself that it's impossible for him to be any cuter than he was in that very moment. ^-^
I don't expect much - only that he will look at me and maybe smile a bit. That's always nice. And the whole 'staring down thing' comes off as creepy.

Either look away and seem disinterested, or smile and look interested and amused by the situation.

Sure you can go talk to her. Try to catch her when she's broken away from her friends. -she's looking for a book (by herself), she's waiting for something (by herself). If she never seems to be by herself, just walk up to her and ask her out. Give her your number. Their friends will respect you for it and even if she says 'no' -which I doubt she will do- ad least you no longer have to wonder 'what if'. It's the things you DON'T do that haunt you later in life, not the things you give a shot and actually do.

she goes on like bathroom breaks and comes back by herself and I'm sitting at a table studying and she just stares the entire way back. I'm thinking of just walking up to her when she's walking one time. Any tips for an opener?

-having your hands in your pockets makes a guy look shy but confident, which is cute, so maybe try that -BUT only if it feels natural (if you do it normally, if not then don't do this)...
Just be natural, act like you would act in any other casual situation. Smile and ask her out. Don't try to 'trap her' by asking her if she was looking at you or if she likes you - it makes everything weird because, obviously she was looking at you but why does she have to SAY it...right? So just take it from the top and make it seem like it's solely your idea.
Just go over there and do it! =)

how about straight up saying Hey whats your name? And if she asks why or w.e, say I keep seeing you around and I figure if I know your name I could say Hi. Would that work?

But that's not asking her out, that's just asking her for her name. The thing is, if you wait much longer she WILL find someone else. That's how it works.

well once I get her name I can go up to her like half an hour later (she always sits in the same spot) and talk her up. I'm good at that haha just not at cold approaching.

What would be the ideal thing you'd expect the guy you're holding eye contact with to do? Also would you think he's shy or not interested if he looked away before you did?

If he stops looking at me, I would assume he is taken already, doesn't find me attractive, or is shy. If he is shy, I turn around after I passed him to see if he looks back. If he doesn't, then he isn't into me.

I'm just asking because me and this girl from university have been playing eye tag the last few days in the library and she always studies with her friends and I noticed that now they stare too... I try and hold it but everytime she holds it for like 3sec+ so sometimes I have to look away to avoid awkwardness
