Depending on your XPER level, you can have a certain number of currently open questions. We're updating the FAQ right now, but these are the new limits:
LVL 1: 2 Open Questions. LVL 2: 2 Open Questions. LVL 3 to 9: 3 Open Questions. LVL 10 (Guru): 4 Open Questions. LVL 11 (Master): 5 Open Questions.
Thank you so much for adding the closed question option after mho is selected. I hate getting annoying notifications after I select mho. I mean what is the point if I already selected mho? And it's not fair how new questions get glanced over just because someone ask a dumb sex question
I should show you my commenting history. Some of the best feedback I have had from question askers (and other commenter) has happened after MHO was selected.
I can't tell you how many times a question asker has said this to me, "Thank you for replying to me. I'm sorry I already awarded MHO. Your opinion was really the most helpful."
Question closing prevents this sort of activity from happening. The only alternative is to hijack someone else's opinion and reply to that with mine.
So basically the questions that don't get recognized get shut down even faster? Because you know a moderator having the ability to make a question they choose to trend wasn't already enough of a stone in the ass to the questions that get missed. Then if you ask again even if you only got one opinion you're the bad guy for a duplicate right?
Don't act like your doing so much for your community until you do.
They haven't really brought it back though. They're just saying it will be back "soon". Just like the app will be out "soon" and being able to follow questions will be back "soon".
... You copied the layout of notifications that facebook uses, on top of that made it 10X shittier. Well done. Who's idea was this? And why not genuinely begin testing out platforms by allowing the user to choose between original and a Beta release. Seriously guys & gals it's not Rocket surgery or brain science, ask specific questions rather than something as vague as "Content"
How is the private options on questions making it more safe? People can still write whatever they want. And G@G supposed to be a place to discuss, it destroys it's entire purpose
Good point about the private opinions. Now I think they should be left public for everyone to read, and if you don't want it to be public send it in a PM.
I disagree, I thin kit's useful where GaG can be it's most helpful: to those too scared to ask in public about serious, deeply personal issues but who want to have private discussions disclosing further info without revealing themselves. Yes it can and probably will be used for less savoury discussions, but you can't see it - so why does it matter? It happens already in PM's.
@BellePepper Yep, I agree with you when you say creeps are going to abuse that. There's already too many guys here asking young girls if they're kinky have fetishes and saying gross stuff to them, and they all seem to be older guys, like 40+. It's really going to backfire.
@musicbrain5 Exactly and GaG says they're relying on askers and private replyers to self report. ELL OH FREAKING ELL. Yeah because people are SO good at that now.
One of the main complaints of female users on the site is private messages but don't worry because GaG gave a SECOND way to send people private messages. Awesome.
@musicbrain5 I see your point, but have you ever posted an opinion on a question or asked a question where one user would reply to every opinion harassing them because they felt so strongly and did not agree? I have and it gets so annoying. I even had a user mention me twice because he claimed I was ignoring him. I never replied to his replies but he claimed he would make me reply. He was psycho
@ikissedtheskyonce When someone pulls that passive aggressive bs you can flag it as a Member post or antagonistic post. People do not get to harass you.
The fly in the ointment with regard to sending a pm is that you can't do this when the asker is anonymous.
I've run up against this problem numerous times. As a result, I've held my tongue and said nothing at all even though I had something to say.
The best solution I could come up with was to request that the asker contact me through pm so that I could reply to them. This works about half the time.
- I wanted to give an opinion - the asker was anonymous - the asker did not reply to a request that they pm me.
Private opinions allow my to post directly to an anonymous asker without getting their cooperation first.
I acknowledge that the possibility exists for abuse. Perhaps it would be better if private opinions could be seen by mods too so their role could continue.
My point is that you can't pm someone who is anonymous. The pm feature does not work in that situation. You also can't PM someone that has very restrictive profile settings.
PMs only work between users that identify themselves to each other. Requiring that someone first identify themselves so that they can have a private conversation is limiting.
@gray_sailor: While I do understand there is some merit to sending private opinions, I still believe this is a feature that will be abused by the weirdos that we have here. I've been on this site for seven years and have gotten all kinds of gross sexual messages from guys and some girls through PM until I was able to change my message settings.
I'm concerned about the fact that they're letting users self report these posts and that mods cannot see or monitor the content being posted in private posts. I've frequently removed questions and posts containing sexually explicit content (like links to porn sites and dick pics), but now they can just post that in a private opinion and nobody will know unless the QA reports it.
I'm also concerned about the fact that we have a lot of Under 18 members here, and that older members can now engage in sex talk with them privately, without the risk of being policed by the mods. This is now a good predator case for Dateline or something.
Totally agree with you about the visibility to mods thing. I would change it so that the asker AND the mods could see private opinions. The mods only make up a small portion of the community. I would allow their involvement to make this otherwise useful feature a safe feature too.
@gray_sailor I would be okay with that. Admins can already see our PMs for the exact same reason. If letting moderators see the private opinions isn't doable (which is a possibility), then the feature should be scrapped entirely. The cons really outweigh the pros here.

Down vote the idea about bringing back the down vote
So, people now have a permanent cap on the number of questions they're allowed to ask. What is that cap? And how is it determined?
Depending on your XPER level, you can have a certain number of currently open questions. We're updating the FAQ right now, but these are the new limits:
LVL 1: 2 Open Questions.
LVL 2: 2 Open Questions.
LVL 3 to 9: 3 Open Questions.
LVL 10 (Guru): 4 Open Questions.
LVL 11 (Master): 5 Open Questions.
THIS IS STUPID, NO CAP PLEASE
If you select mho on a question, you can ask another unlimited.
Your level is the number of NON-MHO selected questions you can have open.
After 48 hours your cap resets to yoru level even if you had 4 open ones.
Thank you so much for adding the closed question option after mho is selected. I hate getting annoying notifications after I select mho. I mean what is the point if I already selected mho? And it's not fair how new questions get glanced over just because someone ask a dumb sex question
48 hour questions mean less drama less trolls
I should show you my commenting history. Some of the best feedback I have had from question askers (and other commenter) has happened after MHO was selected.

@gray_sailor
Indeed.
@gray_sailor that is so annoying when people hijack other people's opinions
All good, but don't freaking close the questions. What's the point of it? Don't close them!
I feel like the MHO opinion-cancellation thing is gonna get REALLY annoying
AND DOWNVOTE THANK U
bringing back the downvote is cool, but all the other changes are absolute rubbish
They haven't really brought it back though. They're just saying it will be back "soon". Just like the app will be out "soon" and being able to follow questions will be back "soon".
i logged onto 23 notifications. guess what? i don't care who was chosen for most helpful opinion on questions i answered.
now i gotta go through each one to see which r replies to my comments and what not..
This sucks donkey balls. It was bad eniff when the down vote was removed. Why continue to make the site worse.
Nice little feature would be to stop seeing your own opinions in the live feed... It makes no sense to have them there!
... You copied the layout of notifications that facebook uses, on top of that made it 10X shittier. Well done. Who's idea was this? And why not genuinely begin testing out platforms by allowing the user to choose between original and a Beta release. I like that questions will be closed after the mho is chosen.
Why? Someone may come along with a better answer. It can't be posted.
I don't care about the downvote, or notification jazz & I doubt I personally will ever use private opinions.
The other updates, are just pretty much gonna see the same 706 questions asked over and over again.
Why did you close the questions? That was a big mistake you idiots made. You're ruining Gag! I want all the questions back open!
No one likes the updates! Make GaG the same as it was before!
the downvotes were good though.
Interesting changes, now let's see how community will react.
Nobody is really liking it so far, haha.
How is the private options on questions making it more safe? People can still write whatever they want. And G@G supposed to be a place to discuss, it destroys it's entire purpose
I won't be selecting MHO anymore. 😊
And the private opinion thing is dumb too. I think people will abuse that and turn it into a dating website or something.
Good point about the private opinions. Now I think they should be left public for everyone to read, and if you don't want it to be public send it in a PM.
@musicbrain5 exactly! It's dumb. You can just send a pm
If you want your opinion to be dumb! This update is so useless.
"I won't be selecting MHO anymore."
Now you just have to keep your questions 'active.' I wonder if you can do that by repeatedly replying to opinions on your question.
Private I mean.
@ChromAzonyx108 that's why it's dumb. It should be a personal choice whether or not I want to close my question. 🙄
I agree. I don't like GAG silencing us.
I stand with you about the private opinion feature.
@Girl_Scout exactly my point! It's redundant.
@ChromAzonyx108 Indeed.
@jacquesvol thanks👍
I agree to this 👍
@Humping_Tornadoes thanks :)
The private opinions are going to turn into a huge disaster.
@BellePepper Yep, I agree with you when you say creeps are going to abuse that. There's already too many guys here asking young girls if they're kinky have fetishes and saying gross stuff to them, and they all seem to be older guys, like 40+. It's really going to backfire.

@musicbrain5 I know I'm going to abuse the hell out of it. Hello sexy ladies
(I'm not really like that. This was a joke. I agree.)
@musicbrain5 some users do not allow private messaging due to their settings. I do but I'm not everyone
@BellePepper yep exactly my point. It' will turn into a perv ask underage people site.
@ikissedtheskyonce you could tell an admin about that if it bothers you.
@ikissedtheskyonce When someone pulls that passive aggressive bs you can flag it as a Member post or antagonistic post. People do not get to harass you.
You can also PM or tag a mod to help you out.
@musicbrain5
The fly in the ointment with regard to sending a pm is that you can't do this when the asker is anonymous.

@gray_sailor which is why it is redundant.
I don't view it as redundant.
I can think of half a dozen times when
- I wanted to give an opinion
- the asker was anonymous
- the asker did not reply to a request that they pm me.
Private opinions allow my to post directly to an anonymous asker without getting their cooperation first.
I acknowledge that the possibility exists for abuse. Perhaps it would be better if private opinions could be seen by mods too so their role could continue.

@ikissedtheskyonce how about some constantly replying to comments they did not like or agreed on with the same reply within a single question.
It's coming back soon really? Why not now?
Have been off the site for several weeks and the changes here I don't really like especially the closing of questions
