It's all subjective. You could call these good leadership skills. I just got tired of hearing the "'Alpha males are all assholes" nonsense or seeing articles telling guys to be get women they need to be pretty much being abusive and controlling and that is what an 'alpha' is. Putting someone you are supposed to care about down. Considering that many people today are growing up with information they read online I wonder what things will be like in the next 15-20 years.

And of course this is just an opinion piece. And yeah they probably wouldn't care. And I'm not saying they would care. I'm saying these are what I believe some of their traits are. And people who do things like belittle, bully, abuse, disrespect, talk down to, etc... are NOT alphas. Anyone who needs tear others apart to build themselves up is weak.

Maybe I should rename it "Traits of a good male leader" Hahaha. OH gawd you guys are so funny... By definition an alpha male is the dominant male in any group. Whether it be in a group of friends, coworkers or in a relationship. Yes you are what you make of yourself. Any man can rise up to be a leader. Or not, if that isn't his thing. Some people are better to sit back on the sidelines.

I hate to burst your bubble but there is no such thing as an ALPHA MALE

the term ALPHA MALE was invented by the true insecure narcissist to be used as a shaming tactic against those other folks they look down upon and make themselves feel better about themselves in return. therefore the folks who use this term are in fact the true inferior beings and now that you wrote a mytake on this I guess this says a lot of things about you.

And this term is used in order to score better and more with the women, who fell for that and to confuse the others by labeling them as - how did they call it? - beta.

I mean hey, I can be a true tiger and everyone else is a goose but that would only display foolishness from me as much as some douchebags call themselves "alpha male" xD

Wow assuming much? You don't know what type of person I am. I put 'alpha male' in quotes. I know it's more of a concept. Didn't realize I needed to write a disclaimer. But there ARE people who believe in this. Who want to call themselves 'alphas' (or blame those they call `alphas' for shit) and think that pretty much means being an asshole. If an 'alpha male' did exist he would be a leader. I'm saying that a good effective leader doesn't have to tear others down to build themselves up nor is he constantly trying to prove himself. Those are signs of an insecure person.

Some people seem to think I'm saying that only 'alpha males' have these traits so only they will be successful or get the girls (or guys!) or something. This is NOT what I'm saying AT ALL. That is COMPLETELY missing the point.

@Unit1 the bottom line is that if you got a penis and two balls you are automatically a MALE. what you decide to do with your life and how you want to be is up to you and therefore who are these other people judge you for being superior or inferior?

@Nyx_85 ok I'm sorry I take the last part back, I could of swore you were supporting that term for a second. I guess you were being somewhat sarcastic all along but yea never pay mind to the folks who use this term as they are in fact the true insecure losers themselves. they are just a bunch of posers trying their best to cover up the sun with their puny index finger

no but a lot of them use this term to shame those men they disdain in any way, shape or form. they also use in favor of the chads they love to put on pedestals, hoping that this alone will seduce them into surrendering to them thus becoming an object they can manipulate. this guy right here explains it very well...

@Unit1 I'm fairly easy going in general (I can be passionate about things I care about) but I do have standards (i. e loyalty, honesty. Which are things I give out, not just expect) but if a man doesn't fit them he doesn't need to be in my life. Plain and simple. So many women get with a guy that doesn't make them happy and then try to change him. I would rather meet someone I don't feel like I have to change.

@Unit1 Now 20 year old me would have wasted months sitting around and waiting for a guy who wasn't really worth her time (not to say he's was necessarily a jerk. Just not on the same page) to suddenly change his tune. And obsess over everything. Cry herself to sleep because she was putting herself out there without getting the affection she gave back. Complete drain of energy. 31 year old me knows this is immature and self defeating.

Yeah. This is just what I want makes a good Alpha Male. But supposedly even using the word 'Alpha' is enough to send people into a frenzy. "How dare you!" meanwhile they aren't even taking in my points. Remove the label and just look at the message. If anyone has anything to argue with about that then I feel sorry for any girl/guy that dates them. Not saying they HAVE to be like that but like.. They are good traits.

I'm also not saying a guy who doesn't have all of these traits isn't an alpha male. After all I said he is always working on himself. I seriously don't get why people find this so offensive. Or saying it's emasculating? Being a strong and effective leader while not putting other people down or being abusive and controlling and respecting the views of your partner is emasculating? Like seriously?

It's not the term. 'Alpha male' is the entirely subjective concept. It's the principle. People want to act like assholes (or blame assholes for having the things they don't have) and then they use terms like 'alpha male' as an excuse. I'm putting it in a different light. A strong and noble leader doesn't tear others down to build themselves up. Some may lead by force but the strongest leaders are the ones that others want to follow of their own free will.

That many people talk about the concept (because that's all it is. An idea) of being an 'alpha male' as something really negative. They either use it as an excuse to be an asshole or to blame other men for stuff (often for getting more attention than them). I've literally read articles where it's encourages guys to be a dick (even abusive) because supposed THAT is being 'alpha'. I don't believe that being a dick makes someone a good leader. I believe a good leader stands up for what he believes in, works on himself, doesn't blame everyone else, doesn't put people down to make himself feel better. No matter what anyone says people are going to continue using the 'alpha' label. So if we try to make it more positive maybe they will become less likely to use it as an excuse for their piss poor behavior.

An alpha male doesn't care what some random girl thinks he should be and behaves as he sees fit.

As I said it's just my opinion... That being an 'alpha' doesn't have to mean being an asshole who walks all over other people. Of course not everyone is the same. So if you have any ideas you can add your own.

It's having strength of character. I'm saying one HAS to have these traits but If anyone argues that these aren't good traits to have (if you so choose) then well... the meaning of my words will be entirely lost on you. So talking is pointless.

No. One doesn't HAVE o have these traits, at least not all of these. Some of these just aren't accurate. Especially the 'he'll always pick quality over quantity', that's exceptionally inaccurate. This take is simply your own opinion, which you are entitled too. But not accurate.

"You should have stated "just my opinion" in the beginning"

I did. It's not my fault if you didn't read what I wrote.

"9/10 times alpha males are always "assholes" and that's just the truth."

That is your view. Saying it's the truth is well... There are no experts on this. You see this is exactly the type of thing I am talking against here. If a man feels he has to be an asshole to get what he wants then he is using methods that degrade, belittle, control and manipulate others. He may have success but is usually short term and superficial. These asshole 'alpha males' you talk about are always trying to show off. Puffing up their chest. Ruffling their feathers. If they didn't get the attention they are used to they would probably freak out. In fact I've known guys like that who do freak out when they are rejected. They think their status is everything.

Having the biggest bark doesn't make you the strongest dog. It just makes you the loudest.

Ok. I didn't read your take carefully. I speed read everything.

But now you're talking about fake alpha males who are trying their best to come of alpha freaking out when they get rejected. Real alphas don't even need to approach because women are after them, so they're doing the rejection, no the other way around.

In reality alpha simply means the top or the very best. Therefore the alpha males are the most successful males in our societies. 9/10 times these guys have multiple women all over them and do not stick to "quality over quantity" the way you put it. That's inaccurate.
Did you see I put connotations around asshole? These guys also behave in a way careful for themselves only, that doesn't change towards women, making these guys "assholes" towards women. So what you're saying also isn't accurate.

Like I said, it's your opinion of what an alpha male should be like. But all the anecdotal evidence you want to find will show your opinion to be inaccurate. That's all I'm saying.

One can behave in a way that is good for them, yet doesn't hurt others. When I talk about an asshole I don't mean someone who lives his life the way he wants and doesn't cater to others. I mean someone who is literally an awful person. I believe that a good leader doesn't force his will on others. He doesn't need to. Other follow him because they want to. 9/10 times is also an assumption.

I came across an article a little while ago telling men how to be 'alpha' and get women. It pretty much boiled down to being an abusive controlling asshole who treats women like garbage. Hopefully most people wouldn't listen to that but I see more and more talk about being 'alpha' and how that somehow excuses being a jerk. Then sometimes guys who aren't jerks and perhaps somewhat shy think "Oh I guess I'm not an alpha so I can't get girls..." then they stop even trying to gain more confidence. They assume nobody is going to like them for them. But like we don't even need to use the term alpha. You could just think of these as some general traits. Perhaps traits of a good leader or just traits of a well rounded person. Yeah nobody HAS to have these traits. They are what they choose. But as an ideal I don't think this is a bad one. Not saying all of these are a MUST. The most important thing is the ability to self actualize. To learn and grow throughout your life.

I rather not reply at all but I'm going to be generous and go that mile.

There is no such thing as "alpha" or "beta" male. Some freaks have merely invented that illusion to score more with the women and confuse those more, who do not understand it.

Want to know what an alpha is? Here it is alphavulture.com/.../alpha.png

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.

How many times can I repeat this? You are looking at my choice of a word (FYI I said 'Alpha male' in quotes because I know it's more of a concept) rather than the message I was trying to convey. I hear a lot of people talking about being an 'alpha male' or claiming what that is. I've read articles where it essentially says to be a strong 'alpha' that get chicks (the articles say this not me) you pretty much have to be a total asshole. Even abusive. I'm saying that NO, a good strong confident leader doesn't tear others down to build themselves up.

Well if alpha males DID exist I believe they would be described as leaders and I don't believe a good leader, who people want to follow, is an asshole. Some young people but into acting like an 'alpha' thinking it means being awful to other people. I believe that's just the tactic of the insecure. Someone who is not self aware and trying to better themselves every day.

Young people today are being raised by the Internet and their peers more then their folks it seems. They are being taught that to be successful you need to step on toes. Put others down. Treat your partner like an object. This isn't right. Call yourself an 'alpha'? A' big man'. That doesn't include being a crappy person.
