Personally, I went to school overseas; a private all-boys school. Suffice to say my experience in school was almost devoid of drama. They were all about discipline and competitiveness; close to a military school in a few respects. I've been mistaken for being a veteran every now and then, and I immediately correct them: I am not, nor have I ever been a member of any branch of the military or any kind of law enforcement. Tried to join the military a few years ago, but couldn't: diagnosed with asthma in 2013. After all, stolen valor is a crime.

I am SO curious as to what you mean. A single mom wouldn't offer her thoughts on how to attract decent women? You think single moms would lie to their sons about skills they need to succeed with women or in the world?
@Screenwriter Yes. They do lie. Its something in womens nature but they all generally lie about how to be attractive to women. You can see this over and over, men complain their girlfriends tell them to cry its ok and then when they finally do their girlfriend breaks up or cheats on them. Its also called a shit test. Dont ask me but most men have observed this behavior over and over again. Even my own mom gave me all sorts of advice and eventually i did 100% the exact opposite and it worked far better. Many men have these exact same experiences. So again, yes. Do all? No. Do the vast majority? Yes.
@bamesjond0069 If this has been your experience, it's unfortunate. I don't think most mothers would want to handicap their sons. We all want our sons to be successful. I think a woman has to be twisted to do this to a SO man/partner/son. Perhaps your experience has been with women who are scarred by men earlier in their lives. Healthy women don't do this.
@Screenwriter as i said its not one woman. I've never met a woman in my life that didn't consistently give me bad advice and many men can chime in to agree. Its not oh poor me, this is the nature of woman since its the vast majority of them.
@bamesjond0069 This might be your and your friends' experiences, but that is not a statistical truth. Parents who love their children and aren't abusing them, and I would say that is the majority of parents on the planet, give their children sound advice. Perhaps the women you've encountered have another agenda that you find out about later, or they are badly informed themselves. There is no reason to give men bad advice about women unless you don't want them to have a decent relationship or you want to sabotage them and prevent their success or happiness in life. Regards...
@Screenwriter well for example, most women will tell a man "oh the girl you are dating slept around a bunch, she seems nice i bet she's changed you should marry her" <- typical female advice to this concern. But its not the correct advice because men know its a big ass deal to commit to a woman who sleeps around unless you are prepared to be stepped out on and look the other way. Perfect example of when the typical woman advice is the exact opposite of the typical man advice. And i could give you a list. Such as be sweet and at tentative to a girl. No. Men know that never gets girls interested in you. Its bad advice. Be a bit abrasive and take charge of all situations and dont treat anyone special until they prove they are special. That gets way more girls attention. But women never give that kind of advice to men.

I would find an abrasive man who wants to run everything an unpleasant partner. I want consideration and respect and someone who rubs me the wrong way? Is that appealing in a woman? It's similarly unappealing in a man. I guess you're talking about the 'bad boy' thing. You know what's "bad"... A sexy motocycle, a nice leather jacket and a naughty sense of humor. A tease... Someone who grabs me and kisses me when I don't expect it. Who slaps me on my ass as a compliment... (not so anybody can see, though)... Maybe I'm an odd woman... But that's how I roll... I want any man I talk to to do well with whatever I tell him from my personal experience. Especially my 24 year old son... I want him to meet a good woman and be happy...

Not control everything but essentially be in control of the direction of the relationship. But no women will say this. But women do respond well to it. Sure tell your son to be very nice. When he is confused why the girl he likes is dating a man who sometimes is a dick to her... well thats when the rubber meets the road and you can tell him not to be so nice or you can tell him to buy a motorcycle and better luck next time.
@bamesjond0069 If someone brings up a person's "bad past behavior," there is NO WAY the person getting this info is going to ignore it! Poor past behavior IS a predictor. It's not an ABSOLUTE. If a person did something in their early 20s, they might've moved past this, so bringing it up, and having no idea of the man's relationship and experience with that person at present is poisoning the well. Let a couple decide where their relationship is going without outside interference. Over time, everything will be revealed. I think my son should be polite and respectful. Kind is pertinent. Nice is how children treat other children. Some women might like control. I know I don't. I want equal consideration and to have my say. I don't want to be lead or to lead. Toe to toe. I might need leading to a new experience, remote camping, kayaking, but I don't want someone in charge of me unless it's a boss in a work relationship. Other women may be different. And that's their choice.
@Screenwriter - Smart as you are, Hunter is right here. Women don't really know what they want, it's just feelings. They feel this or that way, but their biological drivers are what has the most influence on the outcome.
And a single mother cannot be a dad too, so the children lose out if there's no man in their life, either gender.

Browny, I agree that a mother is not a father. Men need male role models and male advice. The advice I give my son is from my personal experience and from other women's personal experiences with men. That's all I can relate. I know how I like to be treated, so I think that's valid information on how some women like to be treated. Women have hormonal surges and baby fever... but they also have brains. It's not ALL about feelings unless you're foolish or a kid. I've got to think about serious decisions. I get to my own decisions. And with a partner, you've got to discuss big choices and reach compromises. That's me. Maybe your experiences have been different. I try to give my son rational, experiential advice. I've also done the same in my OWN life. My son was planned. Talked it over with husband. After we separated we had 50/50 custody. We both have good relationships with our son. I'm probably closer to hiim. Just like I was closer to MY dad! But I go on BRAIN before balls. Not feelings...
@Screenwriter you seem to think you're different but you aren't. You are saying things typical of women. This is not what men need to hear. Woman are incapable of raising men. Women are too nurturing, too nice, and everything they teach is from a feminine perspective. That works for women but its completely wrong for men. All these men of this generation raised by single moms and weak beta men are the result. Women love the idea of equal this equal that but it is not practical. Either the man leads, the woman leads, or they fight a lot. There is no other possibility realistically. So when men listen to women they end up fighting a lot or being a beta man whose woman leads. They need a man to say "shh dont listen to women, you need to lead".

It is still ALL ABOUT THE FEELZ. A woman's brain runs on feelings and emotion. PERIOD. So your concept of rational thought and logic is based on how you feel at the moment. It's a very basic difference between the genders. And as a result their communication styles are vastly different as well. Women are covert communicators, are masters at nuance and innuendo. They look for a hidden meaning in everything, and everything they say has an agenda, a hidden meaning.
Men communicate much more overtly - there is no agenda, no hidden meaning. But women always look for one.
You even hear them claim, "He just doesn't get me." No honey, if you want him to 'get you', you have to be clear and direct, otherwise he just doesn't get it.
There are all degrees in both sexes... We're all along a continuum. I take people at face value because I cannot possibly guess an agenda beneath their words, unless they sound sarcastic. Also, I'm not gonna exhaust myself GUESSING at someone's meaning. How pointless is that. There are women who do not communicate directly. My son was involved with one and I advised him to let her go, despite his FEELINGS of not wanting to. She was dangerous. Accused him of possibly raping her... When REALLY, she wanted to break up with him, but couldn't say so... A great example... And terrible experience. IN general, I don't think I'm in the innuendo club. We disagree in this area. But cheers!
