I thought a guy liked me but he went home with another girl?

I'd noticed a few little signs that he might have liked me... for instance, making glances, his friends trying to embarrass him around me, and him getting tense and awkward when I approached him.

The other night though, I was sitting near him and his friends kept talking really loudly about him taking a girl home and having sex and asking him if he still had a condom.

He looked over to where I was sitting and then he got up and walked around and sat next to the girl he was with again.

I walked around for a bit then came back and he had his arm around the girl and later that night they went home together (with a group, but he was still with her).

If he really liked me, he wouldn't have done that right?

My friends are saying he was trying to make me jealous so I'd say something to him, but really all it did was hurt me because I thought he liked me.

Is it still possible that he likes me?
He's only awkward around me and I think that might be because we're quite different. I'm an overachiever in school and dress a bit "preppy" and he's one of those grungy kids. The girl he took home was a slag. I've had many guy friends tell me she's the "lights are on but no one's home" type. He didn't really seem anxious around her but he his with me.

This sounds very complicated. It could be what your friends are suggesting, but you coupd also be assuming too much. You might have to simply come out with it before him in person, as that is the best way to prevent confusion. If he's so flippant as to actually have SEX with another girl to make you feel jealous, then he's just a pile of scum who cares not for your injured feelings. Either confront him or actually ignore him; if his purpose was to make you jealous, he'll probably apologize.

I think he was overwhelmed and intimidated by the teasing from his friends. I think if it was just you two it would have been a different story! The other girl may be been more their type and therefore his friends were more accepting of her over you.
