What does it mean when a guy calls you pretty/cute/goodlooking a lot? Is he just being thirsty?

so if a guy you just met keeps telling you how pretty you are, i mean a lot (if i compare it what i consider a normal amount of times) is that a bad thing? so i met him at a bar and we stayed there for maybe 1-2 1/2 hours, we talked almost all the time, i and he called me pretty about 3 times or so. He would call me pretty just randomly And when i talked to him the next day (messages) he told me he had a great time and that i was so pretty and it was a long time since last time he saw a girl as pretty as me. I told him it was nice to meet him too and i had fun, he replied by saying i was so pretty and that i wanted to meet me again.
I kinda find it excesiv? i mean i get it the first time, and the effect kinda wears off when he tells me it so often (eve thought we dont really know each other). Compliments are good, i'm not complaining, But does it mean anything when a guy say it so often? it kinda makes him come across as thirsty.. Am i just overthinking it? do you guys do this to girls? i have never experienced that a guy says it that much in one conversation.

There could be a lot of reasons for this.

Perhaps he was truly taken aback by your beauty and it was overwhelming enough to consume his thoughts. You did say you met at a bar, so, alcohol may have played a role in this type of repetitive behaviour. It was initiated with your beauty, and sustained by an altered state of mind, which often has you losing your train of thought, memory, etc.

It could be possible that he sensed that you were insecure about your appearance and he felt he needed to stress the fact that you are very pretty. I know from experience that you can tell a girl 99 good things with 1 bad thing snuck in there, and almost indiscriminately, they will only give credence and due to that one negative, while disregarding entirely the rest.

There is a good chance he is simply a bad flirt, and has no clue what else to tell you. He thinks that if he can make you realize how beautiful he thinks you are, that will for some reason make you like him more. I think the media is to blame for that.

Lastly, he may have been taught or raised to compliment women a lot.

And ofc it could have been the alcohol talking, but i think i will get my answer on that once very soon. He asked me on a date, and i said yes, but this time im going "au naturel", and if he stills complemets me, then i know its not the first one

If he does do it an uncomfortable amount again, you should tell him, in a nice way of course. Show him why it can work against him.

I would also explain to him that such bland statements like "You are pretty" are so impersonal and effortless. If he is going to make a compliment, it should be something more unique and specific, to draw attention to something that maybe you have never noticed about yourself, and at the same time differentiate you from all the other "pretty" girls out there. These personalized style compliments are much more flattering, and memorable, and they also build a stronger relationship between you and him because it is a unique thing you share.

I had a friend who used to complain about this. She was a total babe and was very friendly to everybody. Sometimes she'd meet guys who just couldn't believe their luck that a girl that hot was showing them attention. And they couldn't help but comment on it.

I guess they felt she was out of their league and maybe they felt mentioning it kind of neutralised the elephant in the room or something.

Anyway, it might be totally different to your situation but if you are (a) a babe and (b) very friendly to guys then this could apply to you!

Like there are some guys that watch way too many movies or believe in whatever they read in magazines and think that they're being a nice, good, charming, romantic guy by calling us beautiful or pretty ALL THE TIME.
There was this one particular guy who would call me beautiful any chance he got and it was annoying and awkward. I'd ask him a question about an assignment then he'd just stare at me and say "... You are so beautiful. You know that?"
Like, yeah cool. That's nice and all, but could you answer my fucking question?
He could be thirsty or he could just be trying too hard to seem charming or whatever.
He could genuinely think your really pretty and it just comes out.

Guys like that are mainly into looks. From my experience I never take them seriously because they are trying to just use u for ur looks. If all he has to talk about is the surface then he's showing he lacks depth and is shallow

I get that guys are visual creatures, so looks are what they are attracted to and what they notice first. Like i said, we don't know each other, but i felt like i was outgoing and funny, so for him not to really say "hey, i like your personality" or "I liked hanging out with you" or anything similar, makes me think he didn't even pay attention to me, but just the way i looked. I'm flattered that he finds me attractive, but it really comes across like a guy that, like you said, trying to use me for my looks. Ofc, maybe he thinks that i was i want to hear and thinks that by saying im pretty all the time will make me like him or/and jump in bed with him. I would be so more interested in him if he told me ex. that i was funny or something similar, but he's a guy so im not expecting him to know/say that lol

yeah that was kinda what i thought... be asked me to take me out, so we are going for dinner next weekend.. So im kinda excited, and curious how many dates/days it will take him to try to "bed me" lol... he has to stick around for a looong time... just sayin

well it depends on him actually.. first of all he needs to show me and act in a way that makes me thinks he's not only sticking around for sex ( have heard that if a guy sticks around more then 3 months he is after something more) and second of all i need to like his personality, and i need to feel safe and feel like i can trust him. I use a long time to open up to people etc.. so he could be waiting for anything between 2 months and two years lol Since im planning to move i dont have time/ i dont want to have serious relationship, but if i really do like him we could be a friends with benefits kinda thing
