Why would a guy cancel a hookup?

Why would a guy cancel a hookup if he was single before n after? I've known him for a while. Talk online only because we mostly live far apart. Last year he was on holiday where I live and we arranged to meet and hookup, but 2 days before he cancelled. Why? I stopped talking to him but he got into contact again and talks like normal friends no hookup kind of talk yet.

He may have gotten cold feet or changed his mind, but with only this much information at hand I can't draw any worthwhile conclusion. Do you like him or just want to hook up? It's not clear how you're intending hook up to be interpreted.

It was just supposed to be a hookup and nothing more was expected.

Hmmm, in that case I would say he just had a change of heart more than likely. It could be because of a number of reasons: he thought you wanted more, he thought he would get attached, he thought you would get attached, other plans came up which interested him more. I would say if it was just meant to be a hook up, ignore it for now.
