If a typically shy guy shows obvious interest when he's drunk, more than once.. is it just drunkeness or did the drinks just bring it out?

I dont reallt drink, so its hard to understand how it affects people. I have heard of the 'liquid courage' but I've also heard of it resulting in people ending up in bed with random people they dont even find attractive..

That other experience you are talking about has a different name. That effect is called "beer goggles".

Liquid courage enables you to talk to someone you already know and are attracted to by muting the voice of doubt in your head.

Beer goggles allows you to have sex with a complete stranger without first giving any critical consideration to who they are or whether they are in any way attractive to you.

Both of these effects are reductions in inhibition. The essential difference between them is the existence of any prior knowledge (as well as the intent to gain any more knowledge) of the person that is the target of your interest.

If you know someone and you want to know them better, you need liquid courage to talk with them.

If they are a stranger and you wish they remain so even after having sex, then beer goggles is what applies.

I have one of these 'shy guys' in my life, he shouldn't have to second guess, I think I've made it pretty obvious how I feel about him but he is flirty and chatty when he's had a couple of drinks but when sober can't relax and doesn't like to be alone with me

I like to think the drinks made him brave and as a result he was able to spit game like he always wanted to but his stupid ass decision making part of his brain restricted him.

The drinks brought out his true feelings. Lots of guys are too shy to show interest because we believe we'll be shut down by the girl we like. It's easier to spew forth our deepest secrets after a brew or ten.

Actually, he did tell me some pretty personal things! We haven't hung out not drinking (only seen each other at uni parties) and somehow getting his number escaped my mind! haha, do you think its likely he'll be less shy/nervous not drunk since I didn't reject his advances? (I was sober- driving)

Alcohol was once used as a truth serum and being drunk helps kill the shyness, I'd bet money he's interested in you and the only way can get you to noticed is when he's had a few... help him out... shy guys are the most loyal

That what I was thinking about. So many people do stupid things whenthey are drunk. Maybe you just have so much love for everyone :)
