Guys, Why Are College Guys So Thirsty?

No, not literally, you know what I mean. This is my first year of college, and guys are clambering to have a girlfriend. It's a little weird. Is it just that they want sex or something? Do they want to seem like a ladies man? I don't know. What brought this on really is that there's this guy who I've known for a whole two days, and we seem to have stuff in common and all, and he's already asked me out (I turned him down - I mean schoolwork is the most important thing right now, plus, you know, it's only been two days).
I mean, it's not like anyone's gonna get anything from me, that's for sure, but I'm still curious nonetheless. Maybe I'm thinking too hard, maybe I'm being prudish, I don't know a tremendous amount about dating. I just know my standards seem a little higher than some other people's. I don't know! Grrrr.

It's movies! American pie, it gotta be! It promotes college as the pinnacle of life, like you aren't fully enjoying the being on your own, out of grade school/high school, If you're not embracing the new lifestyle of getting some "punani" o. o in college.

Not all are like this or think college is just the party life though. You kinda have o look at it like this also, where better to find a potential life partner. Girls there have ambition as well as some form of attraction, they're in school to further a career or get a degree to make something of themselves on life "USUALLY". I mean some are just there to be there "woo college" this means I'm doing something with myself right? Lol.

Of course maintain your grades and if you're able to balance everything, from school, work and personal life. Fun is the next thing to be had, date (carefully:)), and know that not every guy will be a two day "ask her out guy".

1. Men's sexual peak years are roughly 16-25. Guess what falls right dead center of that? You guess it: college!

2. For those that go "away" to college, it's often their first time living away from their parents, family, and family friends. There is no one around to "tell on them" to their parents, which means they have a huge sense of freedom that they've never had before, which emboldens many.

3. There is a lot of societal pressure on guys to lose their virginity and to "score" with girls - guys who can't get that done are often looked at as mere boys instead of men, and that can be humiliating.

But the bottom line is: yes, it's about SEX. Sometimes is also about a relationship/love/emotional connection too, but most of the time, it's just about getting laid - because guys, unlike most girls, can be perfectly happy having sex even if they don't have an emotional connection - that's one of our biological differences.

(1.) It's hot as f**k outside, of course guys are going to be thirsty.
(2.) Sex is part of the reason, but there's different reasons for that.
-Some guys just want sex for gratification, just like in High School.
-Some are stressed/bored and their hormones are killing them. The same is is happening with a lot of girls too. These guys are also looking for a woman as pent up with frustrations as them for release.
(3.) Some really are just lonely. High school meant you were surrounded by the same group of friends, 5 days every week. College is much more isolated. You're surrounded by a lot of new people and cultures you're not used to. It's harder to find others with common interests since people just show up to lecture and go back to whatever they were doing. Female companionship is a great way to feel meaningful and like you belong.
(4.) Some realize they're adults now, and college is a good place to meet women, find a girlfriend, and end up getting married. After college it's a lot tougher to find such a diverse group of women all in one place, so they're trying to take advantage of the opportunity while they can and find a girlfriend.

First of all, if a guy waits two days to ask you out, then that is a long time. A man thinks a girl is attractive, he will ask her out at the first opportunity. You are still thinking in little girl high school games.

The next thing is, yes, they want to have sex. Dates go like this for me with college women: 1. Meet in a public place (we usually have first contact online). 2. Spend 15 minutes to decide whether we will have sex. It is usually obvious. 3. If we are not a match, the date ends quickly, usually 30 to 40 minutes total. If we are a match, then depending on schedules and what we are talking about, we may continue talking for another 1 to 4 hours. 4. We either then go someplace to have sex or have sex the next time we see each other.

The shortest period of time from first meeting a college girl to pulling off clothes is about 30 minutes, but it is usually a couple of hours. No alcohol is ever involved.

College women today are incredibly quick to have sex. Not only is it expected, but they want it.

The prefrontal cortex has not fully finished developing, but hormones are in full swing and most are really getting a first hit of freedom at the same time. So you have a cocktail where the decision making is not at a 'mature, rational' level, chemicals in the brain are flooding them with very needs-based urges, and they have a sudden lack of direct oversight and a massive increase in personal agency.

They are thirsty because their body is thirsty, they have the opportunities and means to attempt to 'quench' that thirst, and they don't have the voice in their head telling them that there is more important things they should be focusing on.

I'm starting to notice myself actually maturing, granted I still have intense anxiety and mood issues but that just comes with being removed from a society where I was extremely popular and placed in a society that I was hated in and still live in.

@Gommers Late 20s, generally. That's what the latest research has been saying. Which kind of backs up a lot of observation. Earlier research was putting it at around 25. Now it seems closer to 28-30.

It's responsible for regulating behavior, mediating conflicting thoughts, making choices between right and wrong, and predicting the probable outcomes of actions/events. It also governs social controls such as suppressing emotional and sexual urges. Because it handles short-term and long-term planning, it's development is what helps teach people to delay gratification.

There is a reason all those guys in their late teens and early 20s act the same way all over the globe, regardless of culture. It's because of physical brain development and hormone levels. Both of which are culturally independent.

2) Having a companion around campus is always nice - someone to eat lunch with - homework with etc.
3) Perception - how they look to there buddies or friends/ other girls on campus

5) Everyone comes from different towns and schools and this new found freedom gives you a chance to express yourself , try something new , be someone new..
6) It will generally never be easier to find a relationship or find girls to sleep with then in college.. once you're in the real world and life moves fast and heavy, things become harder; finding girlfriends / sleep with girls (IMO)

Well it's a range of things. I'm into my 5th year but in the beginning it was just being horny and not having had the experience of sex or a relationship. I guess in general it's sex, a relationship is the "in" thing in college, your lonely in this new setting and need someone.
Finally why he seems overly eager is from his experience it's easy to lose someone in the fast pace of the first year. Like me he probably saw a couple friends at the start who disappeared in the crowd after 20 minutes and he never saw them again. He thinks if he doesn't get you hooked in now he may not have another chance.

That's another good point I forgot to mention: proximity. College life as a whole is a big "bubble" separate from the real world in many ways, but college is definitely one of the very few places where a guy is going to be surrounded by literally thousands of single, age-appropriate women, and relatively few people outside their age group. It's the most "target-rich" environment you could hope to have, and it doesn't take guys very long to figure that out, or to try to take advantage of that fact - something their biology is SCREAMING at them to do.

It's because society teaches us from a very early age that any guy who hasn't been laid by the age of 16 is a moron, and any guy who doesn't get laid by the time they're in college is destined to be a hopeless loser for the rest of his life.

All these kids are coming from different places. A lot of them are starting something new, or they have misconceptions about college, or they want to experiment or whatever.

Just do your thing. If he is really in to you, he will prove himself. If not, he will move on and so will you. Do your thing and don't worry about it.

Society and media for one thing. People think college is about sex, drugs, alcohol, and partying. It's not. It's about getting an education. Also, when college starts is around the time when guys fully peak in libido. Women it usually takes some more years (around 30) but they are still more open to sex than in high school. I'm sure there are some studies out there to prove that.
