Why your ex asks if you're dating anyone?

My ex and I got to talking after a few weeks of silence. I said it'd be great to see him again and he said, Sure :) followed up with, "Dating anyone?" I said that's a weird question, are you? And he said No I'm not. I said I'm not either :) and he said, Okay :)

Is there a pretty clear reason why your ex is asking you if you're single?

To see if you were able to get over them quickly and if you are still hurting over the break-up.

Outside chance: They wanted to see if they had a chance to get back with you after realizing they made a stupid mistake.

He asked for a couple reasons. One was simple curiosity - to see if you've moved on. And secondly, if you you two were to meet up, to make sure he's not infringing on another guy's girl.

It's not cool to hangout with your ex, when you have a relationship, so, he was just making sure you didn't. However, in my opinion, if you're trying to hang out with your ex, that shows a sign of desperation and that you'll "hang-out" with anyone you can get your hands on, even if it means being an ex
