My friends with benefits unblocked me on facebook. Should I send him a friend request?

I sent my friend with benefits a long letter explaining why I couldn't do this anymore (bc I wanted a relationship/he didn't). I never intended to sound accusatory in the letter since we had talked about our situation in the past, but he took it the wrong way and immediately blocked me on facebook and blocked my number bc he said he didn't want to hurt me. About 4 weeks later, he sent me a text message saying hi, and I checked facebook and found out that he had unblocked me. We've been texting for about a wk. Everything is back to normal, but he still hasn't sent me a friend request. Do you think it would be okay for me to friend request him on facebook? I've known him for about a yr.

I think that's juts going to be a bit awkward. Surely it's fine if you're texting

Keep with the texting, facebook is pratically nothing. Take it slow though.

True. I guess part of me was hoping that he was wanting me to add him as a friend again since he could be scared of looking like a fool if I were to turn him down (if he were to send one). I just don't understand why he would unblock me if he has no intentions of communicating with me over facebook. Haha but I also don't want to look like an idiot.
