Why does my boyfriend ONLY want to talk about SEX all the time?

So we have been dating for a while, but he had to move away due to family issues. Because of that we now have a long-distance relationship. However, all he has ever wanted to talk about with me is about sex, and rarely anything else. I like sex and all, but only talking about one topic for several months is tiring. I try to bring other topics up, but unless it is something serious like my dog dying or something, he will always redirect the conversation back to sex. How should I go about this? (P. S. he is usually a very direct person, and an introvert. I'm an intovert as well, but only direct when something is very personal or with my close friends. ) Should I just go straight to the point and say, hey, let's talk about other stuff because this is getting boring, or should I just try to be even more active in bringing up new topics?

Well, if he's being loyal to you and only getting sexual gratification from Rosy Palm and her five sisters, he may be trying to fill the void of the sexual part of the relationship by talking with you about it?
I mean, it sounds like poor self control if that's all he ever cares to talk about, you should definitely let him know that you want your relationship to have more substance than just sex all the time.
Definitely try and bring up other topics, ask questions about his day, how work is going, what's new in school, whatever... But if it always goes right back to sex, then just address the problem head on.

I'd say he just wants you as a sex partner and he has no interest or clue about a more rounded relationship based on the little snippet I f infornation you provided.
