Why are northerners nicer than southerners?

Question

idk how to spell those words lolz? but my boyfriend is nicer than a lot of guys I know and he's a northerner...why are the always nicer?

I kinda agree with this, I mean maybe its just because I have lived in this area to love and seen the real side of people and if I moved north I would perhaps see the same thing happen over time. However, all the people I have met, and I have met quite alot, most of them are from the north and they are amazing people. I guess its because we are not use to each other and come from different parts. Of course I would give someone a chance from the south, but I have seen to find that the northern group interest me alittle bit more. Now, I am not taking anything away from the friends I do have in the South but its just hard to explain.

Everytime I have talked to someone from the north they always tell me they usually "hate" the cold and can't wait to move south. I feel vice versa and I want the cold. Texas is hot as hell...literally. Anyway, that little passion they feel and I feel about moving and switching parts has some sort of weird connection. I guess its because our minds tell us to try something new, switching spots.

As a result of this, I believe that we "southerners" think the "northerners" are nicer because we have grown to attached to our region and feel like they north is different from us which means they are nicer. I don't think its just a south to north thing. It goes both ways because the "northerners" I have met say I am the nicest person they have met. Hope this helps :)

As a southern gentleman I can tell you there are quite a many good southern gentleman out there. As for nice or not it varies on who you meet. People up north often get these three terms mixed up. Rednecks, good old boys, and poor white trash. Rednecks contrary to popular oppinion are not racist or bigoted. They tend to live in rural areas and hunt and fish on the weekends. Good old boys are small town folks who know each other and pass a favor for a favor. Poor white trash is what most of you northerners think most southern rednecks and good old boys are. No we self respecting a southerners and rednecks and good old boys are not like Honey booboo. We were raised with manners, refer to people as sir, mam, or miss.

Totally agree with this. I grew up in Boston and unfortunately moved to Tennessee when I was 17. The guys I dated and hung out with up in Boston were awesome and so nice!. When I moved down here, it was with the stereotype that all southerners were nice. What I have learned is that southerners are SO much more judgemental than northerners are. I had no boys interested in me for at least 2 years because the second they heard my Boston accent they judged me and wanted nothing to do with me. It wasn't until I went to college where I met guys more openminded. and even then they were mostly northern guys who had moved down south. so yes I would say that northerners are much nicer than the people down south who are some of the most judgemental people I've ever met in my life.

That's interesting since the whole "Southern hospitality" thing would say otherwise lol

I've been told that the difference between people from the north and people from the south is that southerners are honest about their negative views of others while northerners keep them to themselves and put on an act. As a northerner, I can't disagree with that. A lot of people are polite because it's expected, not because they're genuinely nice people.

You can't just label northerners as being nicer than southerners just because your boyfriend is nice and he's a northerner. In my experience, southerners are more friendly but I also know that there are some rude southerners and some very nice northerners as well. I'm not trying to be mean but you can't just generalize that all northerners are nicer than southerners just like that.

i don't really think it depends where you come from as much as how you were raised. I mean I thought southerns were the nicer ones. I always think of "southern hospitality" when I think of somebody from the south. But I did find that people here in Oregon are pretty nice, but we have a lot of hippies here too soo...yea! haha

A lot ofpeople in the South haven't realized that the Civil War is over and they lost.  NOt most of them, but there are enough such people to make it a minefield for Yankees in much of the South, except where there's a majority of transplanted Northerners.

I have observed the opposite. Generally people in smaller towns and rural areas seem nicer and more personable than those that live in cities. Since the south has more rural areas, they would be nicer. I guess its up to individual perceptions then.

That's kind of jumping the gun, isn't it? I mean sure, some northerners will be nicer than some southerners, and vice versa.

they always say that southerners are nicer than northerners. I've met some northerners and some of them are kinda rude.

also I dislike the ones who move down south and are always talking about how much [state] sucks, its like well move back then !

lol I've found southerners to be nicer actually. I don't know if it's the whole southern gentleman thing or what, but they guys are so polite and kind...for the most part.
