Do northern city people think less of us southerners?

Like... my god. How we southern people are portrayed in media. I dont talk with a dumb, hick accent, smell, go barefoot or wear tattered clothing.

This comes from Hollywood as more than from the north. Hollywood writers are pretty clueless when it comes to reality. I realized a long time ago that the way they portray certain people is because they actually believe it's true. They have a stereotype in mind, then perpetuate that stereotype in their writing.

I'm from Oregon and was displaced to Louisiana. though I didn't come from a big city (there were actually many rednecks), I can state with certainty that I dislike the southern accent, and hate it around here, and I believe that you guys are mocked just a little bit.

It’s not just southerners, it’s all rural people. If you don’t live in a metropolitan area, you’re painted broad stroke as the very bottom of the gene pool in every conceivable way. That, or pure evil.

They are stereotyped to be less educated, but southerners are often seen as nice. Politically Northerners have much more in common with Southerners than Americans from the West Coast which can be a plus.
